Musicology is a new and dynamic music school offering lessons, clinics and events in the Tampa Bay area. Musicology's objective is to be a valuable resource to the Tampa Bay area musician who is not satisfied with their current level of skill on the instrument. Musicology teaches students at all levels; YES ALL LEVELS! from a complete beginner to the gigging musician, Musicology's teachers have the tools to further the development of the musician who is not content with their current skill and are ready to move forward. Mission Statement

Musicology develops musicians of all levels through excellence in teaching. Our instructors deliver top-notch instruction through the study of music. Instructors at Musicology approach the study of music with professionalism, passion, and playfulness, to help the student develop in a structured, yet enjoyable way that can bring about or further their passion for music.

Musicology owner Peter Mongaya Hogsholm is one of Tampa Bay's most demand teachers and guitarists. Mesmerized by the strange but uniquely beautiful sounds of Jimi Hendrix, Peter Mongaya Hogsholm picked up the guitar at the age of 14. As a native of Denmark, Peter attended Sankt Annae Gymnasium (a prominent fine arts and music school in Copenhagen, Denmark). Upon graduation Peter resided a half year in Manila, Philippines, Peter played for Philippine recording artists Kulay and with South Border, a popular Philippine R&B group. Further studies include: Jazz Akademiet,Copenhagen and The Players School of Music, Clearwater. Private studies with: Charlie Banacos, Mike Stern, Jeff Berlin, Edward 'Spanky' Alford, Tower of Power guitarist Jeff Tamelier, and Fareed Haque. Masterclasses with: Joe Pass, Steve Masakowski, Robben Ford, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vic Juris, Randy Johnston, Pat Martino, Eddie Gomez, Ingrid Jensen, and Larry Coryell. Peter has performed and/or has toured with Rick Derringer, Jeff Kashiwa (Rippingtons), Jeff Berlin, Mike MacArthur Group, Eric Darius, Larue Nickelson, Ron Reinhardt, Dave Reinhardt, Miguel Alvarado, Shawn Brown Group, Nu Soul Company, Taxi, Irritable Tribe of Poets, OMNI, Bishop Norton, R&B/Gospel singer Bobby Roman, super jam band Hong Kong Fooey, as well as his own experimental group Inner Urge.In addition some recording credits include:

He has played venues such as Caesars Palace, Las Vegas; Kimbell’s East, San Francisco; The Catalina Jazz festival, Los Angeles; Clearwater Jazz Holiday 2000 & 2002; headlining with Rick Derringer at the Mahaffey Theater, St. Petersburg; and WMNF Tropical Heatwave 2004, Tampa. Television appearances: BET Jazz, Clearwater Jazz Holiday 2000 with MMG; and NBC “the morning show” numerous times.

Currently, when Peter isn't pickin' and grinnin', he is the head of the guitar department at Jeff Berlin's Players School of Music, and is owner/president of Musicology, a music school which goal is to 'empower the musician within."
