What the hell is MUNK???
MUNK is the project of MATHIAS MODICA. One of the two guys behind GOMMA RECORDS from Germany.
Mathias is the son of an Italian mother and a German Daddy - a quite freaked out avantgarde music composer. In his childhood Mathias family was living in Rom and Paris before moving to Germany. He learned to play several instruments and used to organize partys, to dj at house partys, design T Shirts ... before starting the GOMMA label with his friend Jonas Imbery.
Now - he records his own music under the name of MUNK. The new album CLOUDBUSTER has just been released.
The sound is hard to describe. Let's say it's deep discoish futuristic dance and psychadelic pop music. Expect lots of pianos, flutes, old synths and kaputte drummachines.
As always Mathias worked with other musicians and friends. On the first MUNK album "Aperitivo" (2005) there was
JAMES MURPHY of DFA/ LCD Soundsystem doing the lyrics of the club hit KICK OUT THE CHAIRS! There was Micky Moonlight aka MIDNIGHT MIKE and DJ CHLOE from Paris.
On the new album CLOUDBUSTER
there are songs with
Italian actress ASIA ARGENTO, Matty Safer (THE RAPTURE) and German 70ies movie icon KLAUS LEMKE. The album has been recorded with Mathias' old partner and friend Jonas TELONIUS Imbery.
Currently Mathias is rehearsaling in Berlin with some friends to put on a MUNK live show. Besides he just organised the MONDOGOMMA EXIBITION in Berlin, travels around the world as a DJ - playing hot disco and new house music, is gonna start a new T SHIRT colletion and runs the GOMMA label with Jonas Imbery.
