About me:
Modern Materialis an independent designer boutique specializing in paper, apparel, and accessories.
It's not always considered a good thing to be materialistic, but the truth is, most of us are. As a designer, it's impossible for me to escape the label because I'm all about making things look good. It's my job, so I might as well embrace it.
Annie Weihrauch | Founder & Designer
I decided to create my own line of paper and fashion accessories as a way to express my creativity and style. I am inspired daily by the evolving trends in fashion and design, and felt the need to translate my inspiration into my own ideas. After graduating with honors from Columbus College of Art & Design in 2003 with a degree in Advertising & Graphic Design, I spent four years as a packaging and accessory designer for Bath & Body Works. I continue to work as a full time graphic designer while beginning to establish Modern Material,, as a independent designer brand. My vision for this brand is to remain open to emerging ideas instead of focusing on a brand right approach.
Within Modern Material, several cohesive collections begin to form the core.
The Royalty Collection is inspired by the mixture of modern world rock and roll and medieval European royalty. This edgy rocker style is represented by iconic guitars and royal coat of arms, including the crowned eagle and rampant lion, decorated by banners and flourish details. This collection represents the indie hipsters who are deeply submerged in the underground music scene. Although I am not a musician, I am constantly inspired by music and it's surrounding style. Long live the rock & roll queen.
The Vintage Collection brings forward the retro chic illustrations of travel posters and advertising campaigns from the early part of the twentieth century. Unique distressing of designs lend to a weathered billboard look, revealing years of built up layers. Rich pigments and bold typography create a charming display of retro style.
The Modern Collection is one of the founding collections for the paper category. Bold and crisp graphics exhibit the true sense of modern simplicity.
The Sneek Preview features a new design which will be packaged as a set of 10 postcards and included as a free gift with any purchase over $10. Select designs may be continued as a regular item.
