The Object of My Obsession was somewhat of a smashing success. To say the least, it was a fun experience. Having a live rock band in a non-musical show worked out better than anyone could have ever imagined. I wanted to write a play for people that love Rock music. It turned out better because people that don't listen to rock music approached me and said they loved the music. I was also told that the plot and music were intertwined very beautifully and that it wasn't tacky at all. If you missed the show, DVDs will be available through me within the next two months.
Warren Fielding has broken up with his band "The Leisure Pigs" and finds himself in a creative slump while working at Maestros Coffee House in Seattle. His creativity suffers even more after falling in love with Gretchen Kellerman, a sexy workaholic vixen. Given that Warren is a very sensitive man, his feelings get hurt and is forced to dive back into his creative self again.
The world premiere cast included Ben Kingsland as Warren Fielding, Charlene Smith as Jamie Heisman, Ashely Hammond as Jessica Schweitzer, Ted Ballard as Stanley Nelson, Andrea McPherson as Marie Sandberg, Goth Girl, and Old Lady and much, much more. Directed by JeNae' Nicole Taylor, Produced by Mike Fox, Music Directed by Carl Larsen. Live Music Performed by The Lime Twiggs. Original Lyrics written by Mike Fox and Carl Larsen.
Telemonster was not only the first play that I wrote but also the first one I ever produced. Telemonster was featured in the 2007 Capital Fringe Festival. Telemonster ran at the DC Arts Center on July 25, 27, 28th. This was a very positive experience for me. The cast and crew were very suberb. There's a possibility of Telemonster being made into an independent film. In this play, Bob Gaines, a professional prank caller, gets hired to call Jason Irving's ex-girlfriend Sherri Bryant and book her on a fake trip to Bermuda in Jason's private jet. Jason Irving's plan of getting her back doesn't work since Sherri falls for Bob. You can watch a clip of the courtroom scene in Telemonster, which makes the OJ Simpson trial seem pale.
The cast included Stephanie Anderson, Tom Beck, Bret Bement, Devin Rumer, Phil Amico, Kelly Potchak, Jenna Jones, Joseph Thornhill, and Belinda Fadelmola. Dwon Gillis helped out on sound, Stephanie Jordan was our stage manager/lighting person and Lakeisha Oliver was our costume person. The show was directed by Christina Rojas. A pre-show announcement was recorded by Ron Buckhalt, who played Brady in 'Inherit the Wind' with me. Find out more about future Telemonster performances by visiting http://www.telemonster.i8.com
In May of '07, I played the role of Bertram Cates, the biology teacher, in the Rockville Little Theatre production of 'Inherit The Wind', which is loosely based on the the Scope's Monkey Trial of 1925. This was my first dramatic role to date, which I hope to do more of. However, being a biology teacher in a southern town in 1925 is enough to drain you of your energy. After this show, my break from comedy was over. I enjoyed sharing the stage with Bill Byrnes, Ron Buckhalt, Tom Lane, Kryss Lacovaro, , Bill Spitz, Becky Batt, Ted Taylor, and everyone else in the cast and crew. William McDougall was our director.
In February of 2007, I played Dirk Winston in the Foundry Players production of Mary, Mary by Jean Kerr. During the early '60's, 'Mary, Mary' was the longest running non-musical broadway show. As a cast, we were delighted to have Wayne Henson as our director. This cast consisted of Cassie Lee as Mary, Mark Lewis as Bob, Carol Anthony as Tiffany, and Mario Font. I had previously worked with Mario Font as Oscar. in the Little Theatre of Alexandria production of 'The Ritz' in 2004.
