About me:
PrideFest History
The first gay pride parade in 1969, known as the March on Stonewall, started as a protest against discrimination and violence against gays in New York City. Today, pride events have become an annual celebration and have grown to include thousands of gay and gay-friendly participants, not to mention hundreds of spectators.
Mid-Missouri’s PrideFest is in its sixth year and continues to grow annually. At the first gathering in 2003, approximately 200 people attended what has been described as little more than a big picnic. In 2007, the day-long event attracted over 900 people and many vendors.
Each year there has been change and now we have entertainment, a Pride Caf, vendors and more.
The Mid-Missouri LGBT Coalition hosts PrideFest annually. Admission to the event is free thanks to the generous donations of individuals, sponsors, corporations and vendors.
Drop by Stephens Lake Park on June 14, 2008 to see what all the excitement is about.
The mission of the Mid-Missouri LGBT Coalition is to unify, inform, support and mobilize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals, groups and allies in our community through community building, communication, education and advocacy.
Monthly board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month in Columbia, Missouri. While this is a Board Meeting, all interested parties are welcome.
