About me:
I am a twenty year old independent candidate for the Kingborough Council elections in 2007.

I was born in Melbourne about twenty years ago and moved to Tasmania in 2003. In 2004 I moved into the house where I still live in Allens Rivulet. I love the area. If elected I would, according to my initial research, be the youngest elected representative in Tasmanian history, being three months younger than Matt Smith was when he was elected to the House of Assembly.
I've been involved with the Tasmanian Youth Parliament since 2003 both as a participant and an organiser. I've also been heavily involved with the United Nations Youth Association of Tasmania. I've worked with Hobart and Kingborough Councils on their youth policies, youth programs and youth participation strategies, always as a young person.
I am astounded by the lack of participation of young people in decision-making processes. This isn't our fault, however. There are very few good opportunities for participation by young people, especially in government at all levels. For this reason I'll be running for Kingborough Council in the upcoming elections. I'll be keeping a record of the process on myspace using my blog. I hope others will see the good in running for politics too. People can vote from the time they're eighteen but people tend not to run for elected office until they're closer to thirty eight! This is especially true of local government, which I believe has a greater capacity to have an immediate impact upon lives at a local level.
