Hi - my name is matt. i'm a montana boy living in tacoma, wa. and make a living serving pizza and beer to the hungry masses. i like my job - most of the time. i also play some music. you could say it's my passion - but really it's what keeps me alive and sane. i can't say that i'm better than any other musician you'll see, but i like to put my heart and soul into what i do. just maybe what i have to say will make it through to someone out there...
MATT COUGHLIN, from the town of Belgrade, Montana, has called the Puget Sound area home for the last 6 years. He graduated from PLU in 2003 with a music degree, and then went to work slinging pies at a local restaurant to pay the bills. He got a little tired of the flour finding its way into odd places, so he picked up his guitar to look for an outlet and a little fun.
Matt's original music draws from several influences, blending folk, rock, country, and even a little jazz to create smooth melodies over his unique guitar playing. He places and emphasis on the vocal aspect of songwriting, concentrating on lyrics and text painting to create mood and emotion. Live shows are packed with energy a compassion.
Since his debut on the Jazzbones stage in January of 2005, Matt has made a name for himself as a singer songwriter in the Tacoma/Seattle area. He has been quoted as an "up and comer" by the Weekly Volcano's Ginger Knoxx, who says to "expect big things". In the past year, Matt has opened for Martin Sexton, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Storyhill, The Paperboys, Vicci Martinez, The Jude Bowerman Band, Doxology, Christopher Cross, Curt Kirkwood, Christopher Eberhardt, and The Eric McFadden Trio.

Dude, I thought you guys were just messing with me when you talked about the NKOTB reunion! I just saw their new video. That's NOT cool man! Do you still have the "action figures"?
I need help with this project. If I located the studio in Auburn or Sumner, would you still be interested in using the studio for your rehearsals? Hit me back and let me know.
Hey man. I played the Beyond the Bridge Cafe on Friday. That place is pretty cool. I hear you make appearances often so maybe I'll see you next time. Just letting you know I've got a gig this Wednesday (11th June) at Jazzbones if you're not doing anything. Anyways, take it easy and keep up the good work.
So we're about 2 months out from the big Montana trip. Any shows August 2-14 anywhere in the state? Except for the 9th - that is Jenny Peck's wedding day and she would not appreciate it if I skipped out to see your show. :)
Thanks for the add! ECS will be opening in September to support musicians in the Puget Sound Region. THe location will be near Guitar Center in the Southcenter MAll area.
What a friggin' show tonight!! I actually got out from behind the bar to see you guys for about 20 seconds, and wished it coulda been longer... but we packed the place: No time for loitering when i'm the only bartender...
I see you! What? You don't like me anymore? Don't answer my texts? That's cool...I'll just erase all 20 years of knowing you out of my mind...no worries...Matt Coughlin who???
Hey it was great hearing you on Sunday. You obviously have a lot of passion toward music which is always amazing to see. Storyhill/Chris&Johnny is one of my favorite groups from the Midwest so I'm glad we found you through them. And I found out today that your friend Anne Hoblitt works for me at PLU... :) AND I hear you make a mean dinner-roll-birthday-cake!
Hey Matt...just stopped in to say hi. Not sure if you can pick up 92.3FM from Spokane, WA but we're going to be featured on a show called Crossroads between 1:30 & 1:45PM (PST) this afternoon (Apr. 20). If you can't get it on the radio tune in at www.kyrs.org to listen live.
Thanks for the support and hope to see you guys at our shows in the fall!
