What happens when a hipster, two metalheads and a downtempo electronic composer walk into a studio? You're about to find out. What sounds like the opening to a bad joke is actually the unlikely lineup behind the unique sound of Matilda Catches Fire. While songwriter Davy Vonschegell brings his love of classic rock, metal and hip-hop to create catchy, rhythmic hooks, lead singer and fellow guitarist Ed Thanhouser uses his sophisticated knowledge of contemporary musical sound-scapes to take songs straight into orbit. Drummer Seth Norman, a skilled producer, DJ, and sound-engineer in his own right, brings a thunderous fever to the kit, while giving intricate, subtle nuances to even the most straightforward of rock beats. Bryon Rudd doubles as bassist and third guitarist, bringing a love of chug to flesh out the rhythmic backbone of the group. The result is a group that is at once serious and playful. As unafraid of sophistication as they are of pure chops, the group gets carried away by neither, and maintains a steady and infectious balance. Songs themselves drift from power-pop to space rock effortlessly, trade metal riffs with Ska rhythms, take electro-pop to classic rock. With their self-titled debut EP, this montage of styles and influences delves comfortably into the gray-areas between genres. The result is not only something that you can dance to, but also something that still rewards after many listens. The members of Matilda Catches Fire are young, hungry and dedicated, unwilling to sit comfortably in a single classification, they bridge all boundaries to create something new and exciting. Their self-produced debut EP promises that even greater things are sure to come.

oh you mutha fuckers. i hate you so much. i've slipped snare samples by hand into every fucking snare hit just because the XLRs were fucked in the top and bottom snare mics. can't have sethy pants sounding like he needs a rewipe. anywho, getting the edits finished to make the stems. after that, i guess i will be fine tuning those vocal tracks. the rest will be fun, mix land for globus. get some sweet plate verb on everything and call it a day. oh yeah and the juno-6 fugue as a intro. i love you matilda catches fire.
