Singer/Songwriter Martin Shears has been a Phoenix favourite for the past ten years. Whether performing solo or with his band "The Scones," Martin has brought his unique musical style to Europe, where he has toured for the past four years, as well as the US. But don't expect typical "bar music" from Martin. Performing on vocals, guitar and piano, he takes on pop and rock classics that most musicians wouldn't even attempt.
Martin Shears draws on an ocean of classic pop influences from the familiar to the obscure in creating his own fresh yet timeless sound. Echoes of acts like Crowded House, the Beatles, Elvis (Costello, natch), Squeeze, Toad the Wet Sprocket, the Pretenders, the Clash and others are effortlessly reborn in the Scones' own infectious songs, all of which can be heard to magnificent stereophonic effect on the Scones' highly acclaimed, swift-selling 1999 independent debut CD "Do You Hear?" The disc's 10 tracks include the Scones' signature song "Everyday's a Saturday" (heard on WB television series Jack & Jill), crowd favorites "Alice Available," "A Lot Like You," "I Wonder," and the emotionally stirring "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

Shears prsentiert restaurierte Songs aus prominentem Vorbesitz: Radiohead; Oasis; Dawid Bowie; The Cure; The Beatles; REM, Coldplay u.v.a..

Some of you may know Matt Jennings as the brother of Mason Jennings but if you click on his picture on my top 8 you'll see that he writes some amazing music. The last time he came through town everyone in the audience was on the edge of their toes in anticipation of the next note he was going to play. He has such an amazing understanding of what makes a good song; structurally, lyrically, and musically. You can see the connection he has with each one of his lyrics while he's playing...it's emotional to say the least. This monday he's going to be accompanied by master bassist Matt Skates from Fort Worth, Tx. If you like music at all, or can appreciate lyrics and the writing that goes into it, you need to come out this monday at the Red Owl in Tempe, Az (University and 101). I encourage all local musicians to come join in the experience of this show...this is truly something you can't miss.
p.s. We're also coming out to Los Angeles on the 23rd if you're in the area...check out Good Hurt night club on Venice BLVD.
