    Mark's Interests
GeneralWhen we got out of the car, the sky was clear. Most of the snow had melted and the ground was glowing beneath the round moon. The rocks were like lumps of ice cream starting to melt.
We sprinted across the desert and leapt over chollas and yuccas and quartsite boulders. We could run forever. I looked over at my cousin Donny Brown. He was smiling. He was not looking at me.
We ran faster.
Donny Brown was a screen. He crossed the landscape like a fishnet through a clear pond. He gulped up clusters of stars and they danced out the back of his head.
I wanted to be him, for life to rush through me as fast as it arrived, not caught up on thoughts or thinking. That's the only thing I've really wanted.

About me:
There's nothing wrong with the desert. You can live wherever you want. My cousin Donny Brown lived a summer in Bullhead City where if you fell on the sidewalk you'd get a burn, and he said that was fine.
www.marksundeen.com
Who I'd like to meet:
For that matter there's nothing wrong with anything somebody else does. I say let them. Look at all the people moving to the desert to write poems or dig for gemstones or build a house of twigs. If anyone asks they say it's great and it's very spiritual and they're getting in touch with the Earth. That's fine with me.

We're thinking about dinner on Friday night. BBQ style in the back if this rain stops pouring down, not that we don't need it, I'm just saying it makes it difficult to enjoy the sunshine. You should still plan on coming down to the last Obes show ever! Thursday 5:30-8:30. Oblio Joes!

I really enjoyed The Ballad of Route 89. It brought to mind the old bumper sticker: Not All Who Wander Are Lost. I've driven 89A a number of times toward Jacob Lake and love it.

Mark--How is the ol' Burque? Have you been to the Fronteir yet? Have you been there at two-thirty in the morning? Have you been frisked there? Have you discovered that it is worth it for the Western Style Hash Browns, the steaming cauldron of green chile salsa, the fresh squeezed OJ, the monster cinnamon rolls? Do not nurse (or prevent for that matter) a hangover anywhere else. More Burque advice from your lazy tour guide from afar forthcoming.

Say hello to Tony Hillerman, Bill Richardson and Tina James Tafoya, or Antonia Gonzalez, whichever you run into first. I expect a nice cocapelli (sp?) wall decoration when you get back. Missoula is snowed in, dude. Like 1+ inches accumulation in the valley. Sick.

Oh, and did you hear the awful news about Ryszard Kapuscinski? Rough year so far.

hi there. i have a one point two zero hour commute to work now; and no one or nothing to entertain me except the paper maché head on my dash who i have named "el senor". he doesn't talk much. make us some books on tape. that'd be great.

thank you for the add, sir!

I recently stumbled upon 'Car Camping' at the downtown library here in Dallas. I'm about halfway through, and man I gotta tell you, this book is freaking BRILLIANT! As a fellow desert rat, I'd say this is probably one of the very best desert books I've ever read. Most, while interesting, get awfully caught up in every little detail of every little thing the eye can see in the desert, or hung up on chapter-fulls of history. Again, interesting stuff of course, but CC just flows perfectly. I hate when I have to put it down for a moment...
