Marilyn's Interests
General
All of the above plus reading and I write daily. I work on all kinds of legislature for wildlife, environmental issues,
human rights. Saving the Rocky Mountain Gray Wolf is prominent in my life and a literal race with death against the Bush Administration. To help go to Defenders of Wildlife.org. Also saving horses from slaughter houses and
preserving the American Mustang and wild horses. I am very
politically active and put hours a day into it for no pay.
I want the Buffalo in Yellowstone protected from slaughter.
1000 have died so far in March,2008. Save Ocean fisheries from collapse and clean up our world. Create potable water
for poor people all around the world. Free people in Darfur, Tibet, and Burma (Myanmar), from violence and oppression. Travel and learning about other places is an obsession.

About me: At MySpace I am writing a blog that will cover many things in the future. This site will have blogs from Ireland and beyond. I wrote a story, I hope to get illustrated for kids. It is a myth for sustainability or an evolution of Good. I began writing when I was young and wrote poetry; some of it is published, maybe more in the future. I attended Franconia College, Franconia, New Hampshire, an infamous progressive school and I lived in Robert Frost's summer home in the village. It was inspirational and beautiful; my window looked East to Mount Lafayette which turned pink with alpine glow every evening. Now that my blog is going and I wait for friends to come out of themselves and participate, I feel there is a purpose for this writing to the ether and wondering who will breathe it in. When I was very young I had a small horse who taught me much and we shared New England trails together for years. We had a freedom then that few children have now at that age. My education took a turn for the better when I read all the National Geographics in the attic and began to follow Louis Leakey and his wife, Mary and later, his son Richard. And I read the stories of Jim Corbett,'Maneaters of the Kumoan' 'The Leopard of Rudrapraeg' and with my worn bird books and neighbors banding birds for Audubon, the forest about me was simply a part of who I was. It still is. This Spring I will get home for a bit. When I began writing, seriously, I was a kid. Alexander 'Sandy' Taylor was my mentor and without his encouragement I might not have become anything. His death saddens me as we were corresponding and I was reading his new book and about to send him some new work. He still inspires me. I will be moving to the Rockies soon. Back to another familiar place. When I returned to College in the 80s
I was enrolled in an Equine Science Certificate program. But
I was invited into another program that paid me to go to school. I chose Biology, the sciences and was an honor student. All this was at Illinois Central College where I was also a Biology assistant and worked at friends horsefarm
where I had been given a weanling filly, Arabian, named Sanchez. I worked for them for 5 years and trained her and her sisters and rode her Father, Bay Ibn Batez. I loved these horses with all my heart. I had been working at another Arabian farm with 21 horses when I began and 30 some when I left to work with my friends. While at I.C.C. I began
photography courses with Shelby Lee Adams who became my second mentor; in Black and White Fine Art Photography. Having learned from this wonderful man was a great pleasure and it changed my life and gave me more creative potential. I went on to win all the regional competitions in Southern New Mexico in one year. First to do it. Only woman and first to take some of the awards. Among others. I was Co Founder of a regional Magazine with my friend Joe Jackson and a neighbor with and Apple2C computer. We learned a great deal. My major changed from Biology, though I never abandoned it, to Journalism; print editorial. I was invited into an Honor Society but they had dues and I had to work. I was published locally. I still publish here and there and showed my Photography in group shows in Connecticut with good friends. One day I will do more showing and maybe have books and films of my work. There is much already done. I will be
glad to do more.
Who I'd like to meet: Artists and musicians every where I go. And writers and poets, too. Photographers and journalists and naturalists (people involved with Nature). Equestrians and sailors and white water rafters. People like me, although I am not a musician I have always known musical people. I love the musical climate in Ireland and want to discover more in Europe and Wales and Scotland. England, too. Traditional
and new, Rock and World beat. Irish music has caught my interest as it is diverse and there are so many fine musicians on the Isle and wandering the world....
Hey Marilyn, just thought I'd say hello. Back from the Kerrville Folk Festival camping with thousands of other songwriters and singing around the "campfires" (which are really childrens' wading pools where you soak your feet in a circle to cool off from the hundred degree heat!) There was so much talent there. I'm back at home now trying to improve. I might not be completely blown out of the water but I'm definitely pushed up hard against the side of the pool. Mo
