About me: Come be a part of the Mardi Gras festivities in Lafayette, Louisiana. Skate a marathon, or half marathon, then join in on the other events for the remainder of the day and the whole weekend.... if you can handle it!!!!
The course is a smooth, concrete city boulevard, 2.2 miles in length, with the start/finish line directly in front of the CajunDome - 444 Cajundome Blvd, Lafayette, LA.
Marathon categories:
Pro
Pro Masters (age 35 up)
Open, ages: 10-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+
Half Marathon categories:
ages: 9 and under, 10-17, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+
Fun Lap (no category divisions, no awards). This is free for skaters in other races; a good chance to skate with friends who have come to watch.
All ages are as of race day.
Full marathon skaters age 10-12 need permission of a race official.

Who I'd like to meet: We welcome all skaters - inline speed and recreational skates are both welcome, as well as quad skates. Some of the roller derby girls are planning to attend!
We also welcome friends of the skating community to help by volunteering to hand out water, monitor the course, etc.

Mardi Gras Skating Marathon's Friend Space (Top 21)
It is with much regret that I will not be able to help promote the 2008 Mardi Gras Skating Marathon. I was dianosed with Breast Cancer this past May and have undergone pre-surgery chemotherapy and radiation. In September the surgery was performed and I am now recovering from the procedure. Unfortunately, I was told I will be undergoing a year of chemotherapy along with another series of radiation therapy as an "insurance policy" against a reoccurance. Needless to say, I am optimistic of the outcome and pray for a healing. Until then I will need to put all my energies into my health issues at this time. Hopefully, my fellow promoters will be available to help organize the next Mardi Gras Skating Marathon. God Bless You in all your future endeavors and hopefully we can make the next event one of the most memorable events for the skaters that will be attending. I am not giving up on making this a successful event, I will just have to take some time to recover. My best wishes for each and everyone!!!

Hey Debbie, those skates are so pretty, I think I might just have to order a pair. I am jealous, I guess I will have to learn how to skate now just to show them off. Can you lock the wheels so I can at least walk since I have to learn how to skate. LOL
