When you covet a dream for so long, you begin to move in the direction that forces you to make it your reality. “I realized I couldn’t force
anyone to dream my dream,” and with that in mind M. Aladin began stretching her art beyond the limitations most struggling artists face. The
talented singer/songwriter began honing in on her skills by doing what came naturally to her. She wrote her signature song “Rainy Dayz” while
cleaning her room, penned her first short film on the train, snagged a beauty crown in the first ever Miss Creole Beauty Pageant and produced the
popular online sessions show the “MSPOT.” A true believer in doing the unconventional, M. Aladin is not the type to wait for things to happen,
because she’s too busy making things happen.
When you see her in action, you’ll understand why music is the soundtrack to her life. She eats, sleeps and breathes music with a religious
conviction. But it’s nothing out of the ordinary for her, because writing and being on stage comes as easily as her infectious smile. “When I’m
really inspired to write, every word, sounds like a song and it just works.” The singer is grateful her cell phone acts as a mini recorder, since
a lot of her ideas come when she’s driving in her car. The words for her song “Naturally,” about letting things happen between folks who have a
mutual attraction for each other, suddenly arrived “at 4 a.m. in the morning. I fell asleep listening to the track and I just popped out of my
dream and wrote the entire song. The only explanation for that, is God!”
The most recently played song on her Nano is her latest creation “Star.” The hip-hop tinged song has been remixed by her band ‘Tonic’ “at least
four times.” Maureen says she can’t get enough of performing the provocative song. “Star is far from personal. People seem to think that
everything you write is autobiographical.” On the contrary, it was the background noise in track that inspired the lyrics. “I imagined myself in
a room filled with screaming fans, but I can’t hear them because I’m staring at the person they’re screaming for -- a newly born star who suddenly
forgets the girl he used to dream with and loved.”
M. Aladin loves the marriage between thoughts and instrumentals. Whether her music is close to home or far removed, it is always genuine. She
simply exudes a pure and honest zeal for creating, whether acting, singing, writing or producing, her passion is contagious. She pushes herself
to the point where people around her feel compelled to reach for greatness. And there is no doubt that greatness is where this “star” is destined
to be found!
