Formed in 2006, Luminol boasts catchy power pop riffs and memorable choruses. The band has played in several Milwaukee hotspots including Points East, Linneman's, Zad's Roadhouse, The Mad Planet, The Cactus Club, and Stonefly Brewery. In 2007 and 2008 they were a featured band in the International Pop Overthrow festival in Chicago and Milwaukee, respectively. Also, adding several cover songs to their repertoire, they tried their luck at a Milwaukee County Parks show, which turned out to be a huge success.
In 2008 they finished up their first album, aptly titled: “Songs For High Volume” and are currently finalizing the details of several shows in the greater Milwaukee area in support of it. Luminol worked with veteran Milwaukee producer and musician, Kelp Chofs, on the album and credit him with making their songs even better.
How did the band come to be, you ask?
Luminol is the brainchild of Greg Barta and Mel Blann, both of whom formerly provided the power-pop guitar sound for Your Indentured Servants (YIS).
On New Year's Eve 2004 they got drunk at Frank's Power Plant in Bay View while watching their future drummer, Mike, play a show with Eric Blowtorch & The Inflammables. It was at that show that they hatched their plan to conquer Butler, WI and then after that, the World. Mike had supplied the beat for YIS so the boys guilted him into playing with them, citing friendship, loyalty, and needing someone who actually knew something about music. They placed an ad on a local music website for a bass player, which was answered by John. The boys told John that they had just signed a indie record deal and, to their dismay, their current bass player up and quit. John excitedly agreed to join the band and to this day doesn’t know they don't have a record deal. Mel made an off the cuff remark about the band one day while counting $100 bills in Ken's office. Ken was tired of counting money and was looking for a way to occasionally break free from his corporate shackles. Mel propositioned Ken in his office ... for the lead singer position. Anyway, Ken agreed to front the band only if they would cover Johnny Mathis tunes. To date, the boys have successfully convinced Ken that they are still trying to learn them.
We assure you that our music is much better than our lame attempts at humor.
Depending on the time of day the songs may take a while to play due to the high traffic on MySpace. Keep trying!
