writes songs thusly:
before they play, the band discusses various topics ranging from software problems to strange smells to the major differences between growing up in the 80's vs the 70's. when colorful phrases come up such as "calcium wad" or "aboard the intrepid" the band will write them down and rick will usually have some idea what he will sing about in reference to that song title. Usually 10 to 15 song titles will be on the page before the band starts to play.
they will start jamming and a few things may happen to get the song started:
-
matt or box will start playing something and wes and rick will jump in, rick will scan the song list and depending on the feel of the music, he will sing an appropriate song
(ex. if the song sounds like black sabbath he may base his lyrics on the title skullcatcher)
-or-
- the band will come up with a "verse" and a "chorus" really quickly before the song is played and recorded. At this point they may or may not know which song they are going to play. They will work out the verse into chorus transition, and then start the song officially.
the songs are recorded in wes's basement studio in an undisclosed location in central nj. every instrument and vocal mic gets its own channel and is mixed (with no overdubs - warts and all) by wes. he will ad some post producion effects, maybe a kick ass multi-tap delay on ricks vocal. but not much time is spent mixing since there is a new batch of 10 or so songs every week.
there is much more to the story so please email us with any questions or check back here for updates.
