Shout Out Louds – Tonight I Have To Leave It b/w Time Left For Love
Limited Edition 7’’ Vinyl and Download Only
Available From October 22nd 2007 on Longest Mile Records
Monday October 22nd 2007 sees Stockholm’s The Shout Out Louds open their Longest Mile account with ‘Tonight I have To Leave It’ – the first UK single release from their forthcoming Second album - ‘Our Ill Wills’. The album is already available in Scandinavia, where it has achieved enormous success, seeing the band grace the Swedish Top Ten album chart. It will also be released on September 11th in the US via Merge Records – home to Arcade Fire, Spoon and others.
Produced by Bjorn Yttling (of ‘Peter, Bjorn and John’ fame,) ‘Tonight I Have To Leave It’ recalls some of The Cure’s finest pop moments and manages to be an emotional pop-song without pushing the usual buttons toward dreariness or earnestness that bogs down a lot of their peers.
The last few years have seen The Shout Out Louds handpicked by the likes of The Strokes, The Magic Numbers, Kings of Leon and The Futureheads as the perfect tour-partners, and surely, with the release of ‘Tonight I Have To Leave It’, all their good work on the road will pay huge dividends with the loyal fanbase that the band have built up in the UK.
FILTER MAGAZINE, USA - “The record serves as a great follow up to The Shout Out Louds critically acclaimed debut album”.
PITCHFORK MEDIA, USA - “The kind of percussion Kanye West might decide to slaughter on his next mixtape”.
INSOUND, USA - “This is a great re-introduction to a Swedish band whose extraordinary 2005 debut, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff garnered worldwide critical acclaim and placed them squarely in the middle of the current Swedish pop revival”
Longest Mile are proud to announce the latest addition to the family - This Aint Vegas!
The finishing touches are being put to a 3 track single, to be released on October 29th on limited-edition vinyl and download. More details to follow, needless to say, but check out Myspace or their website in the meantime.
Before then, get yourself to one of their upcoming shows.
NME, UK - “Perhaps it's that forthcoming single, 'This Is Just The Night Time, Andy', is a song with about 17 choruses, all slightly better then the last. Trust us though, you don’t just deserve Catweasels, you need them in your life.”
Drowned In Sound, UK - “This band display all the hallmarks required to achieve greatness personified and still remain distinctly unique.”

Here's a list of places you'll be able to buy Longest Mile releases from:
Longest Mile Records was formed early in 2007 by Ross Millard from The Futureheads, and two cohorts, Paul Reed and Nick Jackson.
It is the intention of the label to try and tear through a lot of the industry bullshit that has led to popular bands having to sound like a mix of Deacon Blue and The Clash.
We have a small but strong roster of bands, and we are looking to expand that all the time. We do accept unsolicited demo’s, because we like hearing new music. We’re not doing this so we can get away with not wearing a suit to work.
We release records on 7’’ Vinyl and Digital Download.
Longest Mile is based out of Newcastle Upon Tyne – the rent is cheaper, the air is cleaner, and the women are damn fine…
Take a look at the freshly finished video for 'Up', taken from Catweasels Elderly Instruments EP which is released via Longest Mile Records on October 22nd.
Pre-order your copy by clicking here. And if you do so your vinyl will come signed by the band.
We've just got through pre-order links from Recordstore and for all of Longest Mile's upcoming releases. Good things come in three so why no go get all of them:
Longest Mile’s first love and purveyors of extraordinary multi-vocal pop majesty are back. Following the release of genre-hopping and brilliant debut single ‘This is Just the Night Time, Andy’ in January and live shows across the UK with The Sunshine Underground, The Futureheads, The Young Knives and Make Model, this County Durham 5-piece accurately described by the NME as “Eccentric teens, molesting pop music in new, deliciously wicked ways" deliver a 4-track EP on October 22nd, featuring ‘Elderly Instruments’, ‘Peter Cares’, ‘Sam Sang a Song for the City’ and ‘Up’.
Produced, once again by Justin Lockey (yourcodenameis:milo, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Kubichek!), these tracks sound like Elvis Costello and the Attractions battling it out with The Pixies over the rights to compose the soundtrack to Phillip Pullman’s ‘His Dark Materials’. This confirms what we knew all along: these guys (Andy Davey, Sam Meaghy, Peter Bartram, Mark Atwill and Andrew Metcalf) trade in timeless, breathtaking pop music.
‘Elderly Instruments’ itself is 2 and a half minutes of windswept romance, starting off with choppy, Interpol-esque guitar hooks and immense, atmospheric synths before exploding joyously into a climatic and playful celebration of one of those “Wonderful Days”. The video for the track, equally as energetic and pleasantly disorientating will be available online soon.
Step forward to ‘Up’. The video was produced by Matt McDermott (Aphex Twin, BBC 3) and features dancing girls, mythical creatures and the band marching around dressed as tin soldiers, perfectly illustrating this baroque pop masterpiece which is reminiscent of Bright Eyes and The Cure at their finest and most dramatic.
Amidst the current quagmire of diluted social observation and safe careerism that can pass for pop music, this release is a positive statement of intent for escapism, fantastic melodies, unpredictability and pop majesty. Join them.
NME, UK - "Like Arcade Fire forcing the liquidised brains of The Flaming Lips into the mouths of The Futureheads mid-harmony. Trust us, you don’t just deserve Catweasels, you need them in your life”
Drowned in Sound, UK - "This band display all the hallmarks required to achieve greatness personified and still remain distinctly unique"

FIL096: ELKS @ NEWCASTLE ARTS CENTRE - MONDAY 16 JUNE
Described by Hydragenic as 'a subtle, widescreen sountrack for the bitter break-up of a relationship', London's Elks are unclassifiable in their unconventional brilliance, a band always evolving, taking chances and refusing to sit still. Following a successful string of European shows, the band are coming to Newcastle tonight, Monday 16 June. Also on the bill are Spraydog, Italy's Three In One Gentlemans Suit, and The Black Static of Summer. This one is at the Newcastle Arts Centre, entry is £4 and doors are at 8pm.

FIL097: THESE UNITED STATES @ HEAD OF STEAM - SUNDAY 22 JUNE
These United States/Vandaveer was one of our favourite shows of the year in 2007, so we're super happy to announce that they're both making a return to The Head of Steam, Newcastle on Sunday 22 June. This Washington DC outfit serve up country-tinged folk sautéed in electronic seasoning; along with artier neighbours Le Loup and Exit Clov, These United States offer melodic and amusing ideas to the post-Fugazi landscape, but they're still tied to thoughtful ones-in this case, mostly protesting heartless romantic antics - Village Voice. A co-promotion with our friends Ex-Libris Records, the bill also features John Egdell and Aaron McMullan. Doors are 8pm and entry is £4.
