Orchestra713 aka Locrian Endarkenment is the solo/MIDI project of Dave Lamothe. In his quest for more expansive, orchestral, mood-thick-atmosphere music Dave has treaded off the beaten path and digressed from his role as a rock/metal guitar player in order to indulge in the tedious yet rewarding pastime of writing music of a classical and soundtrack nature. Keeping these two distinctly styles of writing in separate projects is necessary to avoid potentially horrendous results of mixing the two genres. However, one common thread weaves its way through both worlds, an empirical, universal truth known as "music theory". And one day when Dave Lamothe has finally climbed to the top of the pyramid of compositional mastery, an epiphanous precipitation of musical patterns and formulae will spring forth, fitting together like pieces of a puzzle or gears in an engine of sound, resulting in a quantum revolution in sound engineering the likes of which hasn't been seen for hundreds of years. So put on those headphones or turn on those speakers and let the journey begin!

I constantly rotate the songs I have posted here on myspace.com. Currently I have Fallout, Time Machine, War Strory and Flight 713 online. I won the theme contest for April 2006 (The Catacombs of Rome) at midi-contest.com with War Story and I won the theme contest for June 2006 (plane crash) with Flight 713. Time Machine got some good reviews as well. My most recent success was a string quartet called The Chase which won the theme contest for January 2007 (Obsession). All these songs were written with Cakewalk Sonar and the MIDI info was played through an Edirol HQ Sound Canvas, which delivers very realistic sound. The Chase was my first attempt at using Sibelius. I actually started writing it in Sonar then bounced the MIDI information back and forth between Sonar and Sibelius. When I become more familiar with Sibelius and learn how to connect it to the Edirol HQ Orchestral canvas, I'll be using it more extensively for MIDI and scores.
Locrian Endarkenment is the subsidiary of any other project Dave Lamothe, aka Doc Nitro, is currently involved in. In other words, these orchestral compositions capture the knowledge of harmony, counterpoint, song structure and other by-the-book tenets that have defined Western tonal music for centuries, but lack the "in-your-face" balls and attitude that can only be expressed through good old guitar rock and metal. Everyone must get Lamoned!!!
Thanks man. yeah, the classics need a little prog twist once in a while. That's funny, I wanted to do this 7 years ago, but put it off until this year. It's fun, I'm glad I started it up finally. -Joe
