The Band’s Biography
In September of 2006 in Orange County, CA., Ming responded to an ad posted by Mike
wanting to form a rock band with its roots in 70’s rock and funk. Because both shared a
great love and appreciation for many of the same performers (i.e.,Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jeff
Buckley, The Grateful Dead, Moe, The Allman Brothers), The MiNG Band was born.
Current members include Ming Loo as the front man and lead guitarist with Mike
Riney on drums and Bryan Panian on bass guitar.
Shortly after its creation, The MiNG Band temporarily added an upright bass. In the early
days, MiNG primarily jammed acoustically with a Singer/Songwriter vibe, which didn’t
capture the edginess burning in their artistic souls. To overcome this dilemma, the band began to reformulate its sound as well as its composition by converting from acoustic to electric pieces. Also, the band parted ways with the upright bass and held auditions for a bass player with rock and funk in his soul. After several auditions, the MiNG Band picked up a new bass player as well as a songster. During the summer of 2007, as a quartet, the band successfully played venues such as the Blue Café, The Liquid Lounge, and
Taco Beach, all in Long Beach, California.
In November, 2007, the band experienced additional restructuring after the songster and the bass player exited the band. Once again the band found that they needed to audition new potential band members.
By March 2008, Bryan was brought on as the bass player and soon proved himself to be the missing piece of The MiNG Band puzzle by bringing that funk/rock/edgy vibe that the
band was so desperately seeking.
Through much trial and error and musical exploration, the MiNG band is jamming at their
highest level to date and continue to explore new sounds by mixing elements of classic rock,
funk, the blues and jazz.
