   About lisa piccirillo
defining "vocal perfection from the moment she opens her mouth" (gregory douglass) and "carrying the gravity of an old soul through every crevice of a song," (syd), lisa piccirillo's allure is hypnotic.

"evoking the passion of sarah mclachlan and the techniques of patty griffin and christina aguilera, lisa's got it all," says fellow singer-songwriter gregory douglass. with an ideal blend of folk and pop in her songwriting, and hints of r&b in her voice, it's clear that lisa piccirillo's influences have been varied. upon receiving mariah carey's debut album at age 8, she knew she had to sing. so from hairbrush karaoke to musical theater, and from college a cappella to original tunes, that's what she did.

lisa grew up in connecticut, where her musical family was incredibly supportive. teaching herself guitar and piano at a young age, lisa began to use these instruments as a means to accompany her desire to sing. throughout middle and high school, lisa developed her talents: playing local gigs, winning talent shows, starring in musical theater productions, singing with various choirs, and experimentally recording in her basement.

it was at skidmore college that lisa truly had the venues to blossom as a performer. as a member of the highly selective co-ed a cappella group, the dynamics, lisa captivated countless audiences with her renditions of "bury my lovely" (october project) and "come on over" (christina aguilera), both of which earned her soloist awards at the international championship of collegiate a cappella. the group went on to place among the top six in north america, gaining press from the ny times and performing at lincoln center’s avery fisher hall in new york city.

as a songwriter, lisa built a loyal fan base with avid support from the campus coffeehouse, lively lucy's, as well as saratoga’s legendary caffé lena. at the same time, lisa worked with the incomparable john nazarenko and a band of remarkable student musicians to perform some of her favorite tunes including etta james' "at last" and mariah carey's "vision of love". "i feel very fortunate for all the opportunities i had at skidmore," says lisa, "…to collaborate with so many talented people was certainly inspiring."

awareness of lisa piccirillo's musical career has escalated rapidly. she's opened for such performers as edie carey, october project, stephen kellogg, and peter mulvey and shares the stage often with nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter gregory douglass. proclaimed as "one to watch out for" (syd), lisa can be seen showcasing her original material at a college or coffeehouse near you. her full length debut will be released in 2008.

Hey lisa, stopping by to wish you Happy Holidays and a wonderful New Year!

Thanks again for your interest and support, will have more student essays and projects to share in '08.

Couldn’t afford to get a gift for all my friends on MySpace, so I’m sharing Francis E.W. Harper’s “Songs for the People” …

LET me make the songs for the people,
Songs for the old and young;
Songs to stir like a battle-cry
Wherever they are sung.

Not for the clashing of sabres,
For carnage nor for strife;
But songs to thrill the hearts of men
With more abundant life.

Let me make the songs for the weary,
Amid life's fever and fret,
Till hearts shall relax their tension,
And careworn brows forget.

Let me sing for little children,
Before their footsteps stray,
Sweet anthems of love and duty,
To float o'er life's highway.

I would sing for the poor and aged,
When shadows dim their sight;
Of the bright and restful mansions,
Where there shall be no night.

Our world, so warn and weary,
Needs music, pure and strong,
To hush the jangle and discords
Of sorrow, pain, and wrong.

Music to soothe all its sorrow,
Till war and crime shall cease;
And the hearts of men grown tender
Girdle the world with peace.
Meg
