Spurred by the public's rekindled interest in post-punk and shoegaze acts like New Order, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and, notably, the Cure, ex-Cure member Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst, his wife Cynthia Levinson, and Dayton Borders formed Levinhurst in the early 2000s.
The group's first album, 2004's Perfect Life, was an electro-pop affair that recalled the gauzy nightscapes of Tolhurst's former band as well as the aloof, clinical nature of artists like Imogen Heap and Kraftwerk. Levinhurst moved to What Are Records? for their meditative sophomore release, 2007's House by the Sea, also featuring guitarist Eric Bradley, who joined the Levinhurst lineup in 2005. ~ Margaret Reges
