Ummm, well, there's me. And sometimes Jared (bro), Josh (hubby), Robin (mom), Steve (dad), Kace (buddy), or Chad (personal banker)... But only sometimes. Mostly it's just me. Me and my iPod. Me and my CD. Me and... me.
Influences
My Mom and Dad, Jeff McCoy (he made me work hard for those solos!), my third-grade guidance counselor, oh....... You mean music? Hmm. Ok- Faith Hill, Chicago, Natalie Grant, The Black Crowes, blah, blah, blah...
When Leah was 3 years old, she had her Daddy buy her a piano. She could play things like Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, and Mary Had A Little Lamb, but it was only after her brother, Jared, got his very first Smurf guitar (and yes, it was blue) that things started to take off. The fantastic duo began belting out songs like Your Momma Dont Dance & Your Daddy Dont Rock -N-Roll and I Am a Promise. So inspired by their talent, their then-pastor parents immediately took them on the road as part of their Evangelism efforts. It was during the first few years, their early days, that life on the road began to take its toll.
By the age of 7, Leah had severe rebellious urges. She secretly listened to dark bands such as Paula Abdul, Vanilla Ice, and Dionne Warwick in her friends basement den. Constantly obsessing about her weight, she began a rigorous routine of Get In Shape Girl workouts and began spending all of her money on leg-warmers.
Jared was suicidal and began jumping off of stairs and retaining walls, requiring many excruciating visits to the emergency room and leaving him facing a long road of physical rehabilitation ahead of him. It was then that the doctors told Jared he would never play the Smurf guitar again. Around this same time, Leahs long time love affair with Jordan Knight (of the popular band, New Kids on the Block) ended when she realized that Jordan never even knew who she was.
An awakening began. Leah began to see that she really wasnt fat, and with the help of her friends and family, focused on channeling her feelings of inadequacy elsewhere. She learned to ride a bike, found the secrets to perfect bangs and feathered hair, and even took all of her friendship bracelets off. There were things that were tough, but her determination made up the difference. Jared began to see that he didnt really like the guitar anyway, so he began beating out mad beats on household items, and his parents eventually bought him a snare drum. Today, they look back and see what their lifestyles almost did to them.
We should have never made it (says Leah). But there was still a little bit of something left in us. Thats what Im doing today. I want to be spent when my time really does come. I dont want there to be anything un-used when I head for that great mansion in the sky.
To that we say, Amen, Leah. Amen.
Today, Leah is the Minister of Music at Believer's Fellowship Assembly of God in Conyers, Georgia- part of East Metroplitan Atlanta. She has participated in 3 recording projects with her Father, 1 recording project with a local band called "Throne," and 1 project in which she provided all lead and background vocals for a local writer. that's great news!....I'll be praying for you guys and the new baby. As for the jam, I told your dad I have a recording session in Marietta that afternoon. If that doesn't wind up being a lengthy deal, then I'll be at the jam session. Have a great week!
That sounds great! All we have to do now is keep your dad straight on which songs I play guitar on and which songs I play dobro on. That will be the kicker. Keeping him straight. See ya soon. Have a great week! God Bless!
Yeah....I need some MUZAK! I'll get around to it eventually. I keep passing my shadow going the other way right now. God Bless you and Josh and all the family. Love you guys! Take care! See ya soon...
hey, you sounded so beautiful on sunday singing I bless your name. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. I could barely sing myself!
Love ya girl
Girl, I had forgotten how awesome a voice you had. I listened to "I Bless Your Name" and was reminded of those "Conquench" days, LOL. I couldn't get the other song to play. And let's not forget, "Hold On....Help is on the way...Help, help, help.....!" Kind of makes you miss Jeff McCoy, ha ha. We need a Singer's reunion BAD!
