Aleja's Interests
General
Reading, Photography, Swimming, Movies, Music, Karaokee, Broadway shows, Art :) I am drawn to anything that has to do with creativity, whether it be cheesy homemade projects, or famous art in museums.
Music
I enjoy a pretty wide variety of music: Fuel, Days of the New, Andrea Bocelli, Nickelback, Metallica, Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Black Crowes, Bush, Carly Simon, Cassandra Wilson, Celtic Frost, Darling Violetta, Frank Sinatra, Jason Mraz, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, John Mayer, Joni Mitchell, Live, Nirvana, P.O.D., Pearl Jam, Radiohead, R.E.M., Shawn Mullins, Stevie Nicks, Swans, Pantera, Emperor…should I really go on? Like with everything else I have a pretty
eclectic taste, and I love anything with really strong
guitar riffs.
Movies
It’s not easy to narrow movies down in something like this, so I am just gonna list ones that stuck with me: Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Halloween, Hellraiser, Pan’s Labyrinth, Life is Beautiful (La Vita e Bella), Perfume: Story of a Murderer, The Descent (I recommend this one to any and all horror fans!), An Affair to Remember, American Flyers, American Beauty, American Psycho (I am now looking at netflix, hence the alphabetical order), the Evil Dead trilogy, The Birds, Bone Collector, The Breakfast Club, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Brothers Grimm, Carrie, The Changling, Chocolat, Company of Wolves, Creature from the Black Lagoon. Okay, I am getting tired of this LOL. I LOVE
horror movies, and can’t get enough of them, especially the classics. If it has evil creatures, ghosts, crazed psychopaths or monsters, I probably like it. Blood can be lots of fun, as long as it isn’t real ;) I love almost anything supernatural. I enjoy Action films, Drama, chick flicks (even when they can make me cry), Film Noir and comedy; I enjoy a good independent film or foreign film occasionally. It all just depends on my mood. Let me know if you have any recommendations or want to rant about the various failures of one of my favorites. ;)
Television
Again I am just gonna list whatever comes to mind. Buffy (excellent TV! Great story arcs and character build-up), Angel, Firefly (I can’t tell you how much I love Joss Whedon’s work), Tru Calling, Las Vegas, Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives (I have kinda lost interest in those last two) Supernatural, Heroes, Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis), Coupling (the UK version, not the US. Very funny stuff!) Friends, (yes I know, a lot of the shows I have listed are cancelled) The Dead Zone, Rescue Me, Saved, Nip Tuck, I am a fan of the original Star Trek, The X-Files, The Sopranos (both of those last ones kinda lost it later in the series) Dexter(!), Masters of Horror, Carnival (though I have to rent those last three)...
Books
I am an avid reader and have been since I was young. I will read pretty much anything I can get my hands on that sounds like fun. I enjoy cheap by-the-format Detective stories like those by Stephan White, James Paterson (some of his), Kay Hooper, Kathy Reiches (excellent books!) Patricia Cornwell's earlier works, I enjoy most books with a
supernatural twist (especially psychics, werewolves or vampires)... speaking of supernatural ... Stephen King's stuff and Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witch Chronicles; I can highly recommend The Lovely Bones, I Am Legend, Perfume: Story of a Murderer, House of Leaves(!) or any of H.P. Lovecraft’s works. I enjoy “popcorn” books like Janet Evanovich's stuff, or funny reads like David Sedaris. Anyone else think books should have been listed first?? Anyways, just ask me what I am currently reading, or recommend something!
About me: Whenever I tell someone that I was born 'n' raised in California and moved to New York voluntarily, the first question is almost always...WHY?!?!? The truth is I have always loved the city. New York has an...underlying pulse unlike any I have ever felt. I fell in love with New York when I was too young to really know much of what I wanted, but as I grew up, that love never died so I moved here the first chance I got (read: as soon as I had my associates degree and a few bucks in my savings)
It has been a few years now and believe it or not, I don't regret it at all. I might not always be happy, and I might not have the best job in the world, but I truly believe I am where I am meant to be. (Okay, maybe I should have waited till I had a few more bucks, but I just KNOW I would have gone on a shopping spree *g*)
I can be sarcastic and cynical, but I am still very able to laugh at myself, and like surrounding myself with the same kind of people. I readily admit I can be a little strange sometimes, and complain a lot, so if I say something weird, just roll your eyes...come on, try it, it's fun *g*
I have always been drawn to water...probably even before I learned to swim when I was really little. So as you can tell by my page, I am a little obsessed with it and I swim whenever I can :)
Hey woman, I see you logged in today and I wish you'd stop by and *see me* some time! Kim was just asking if I'd heard anything from you. See? We miss your friendship!
There's a lot of speculation as to why you're absent, locked in someone's basement, someone locked in your basement, you fell off your chair laughing at Tom's latest porno??? Anway better show yourself soon before we send out the search party, imagine the embarassment when the NYFD break into your apartment and you're lying in a cold murky bath with your toe stuck in the fawcett :)
Happy Obon! It's time to welcome the return of the spirits of the dead! Visit a cemetery, clean up a grave or two, take a departed one some flowers or a little token of your love. Or just take a moment to say hello to someone you know who has crossed over.
LOL, we barbecued for lunch AND dinner! Jesse did lunch, delicious grilled chicken sandwiches; and Jeff bbq'd teriyaki beef skewers that just melted in the mouth. We swam and played lots of music and did indeed have a nice time. We could even see the fireworks show at the high school from our own backyard :-)
Guess what. I took photographs of Keanu Reeves yesterday for his new movie. Just costume fitting stuff so they're not "good", but still. I can't show them to anyone until after the movie comes out. Boo-hoo.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I miss you, I miss you, my time has been so taken in the past two weeks! Waaah, I need a good long conversational exchange with you!!!
thx for the comment! and you have stina as your profile song! : )))
all OK? I lurk a bit on your group every now and again... can't promise anything about the video tho... whatever. we don't do much on stage, it's pretty boring actually for the poor audience. ; )
No, but I can imagine yours, lol. J/K of course. I do make garlic-cheese bagels when I make pasta. Just slice, butter, add garlic salt and parmesan, and broil for a minute. Yummy accompanyment to pasta.
See, I don't like cream cheese on a bagel, so I'm ok there. I do like a lot of butter or margerine on top, though, so there goes the healthy aspect. My favorite bagels are the sesame type. When you toast them, the sesame seeds get crunchy and yummy!
Well, yes and no...By Monday I'm ready to send the spousal unit and daughter back to their daily work lives, lol. I have to answer to too many people and demands on weekends!
Dear Laurie:
I'm been held prisoner at work, brainwashed on a daily basis so my mind is really shiny right now.
Please leave me a comment tomorrow to remind me it's the weekend.I might forget again.
Sincerelly yours,
Hi Laurie! We've been quiet lately, haven't we? What's our problem, lol? I watched the new Hills Have Eyes yesterday - I loved it. I mean, I really did. I'm going to order it again (it was on "On Demand") just so I can tape it. Have you seen it, and did you like it?
