   About Laurie Lindeen
Petal Pusher: A Rock and Roll Cinderella Story available NOW!

I grew up (but didn't grow up) in Madison, Wisconsin. I was a high school cheerleader and choir jock but went off the party deep-end at the University of Wisconsin (as one is wont to do in Madison).

Moving to Minneapolis in the mid-'80's, my girlfriends and I formed the band Zuzu's Petals. We sucked for three years or so (depending on who you ask), and got our act together around 1991 (vans, tours, recording contracts). I hooked up with musician Paul Westerberg and got the nesting urge in a major way.

After the band, I went from songwriting to prose writing. A house, parenthood, and an MFA in Creative Writing followed. When not parenting or writing, I teach Memoir in local schools as a resident writer through a non-profit arts organization.

I follow with odd obsession the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves. I have a shopping problem, especially with sample sized beauty products and a few choice online shops when I have writer's block.

Laurie, I hope your SxSW reading went well. Please post reviews and pics if possible (and if you have time:)) I wish I could have been there. BTW I can't wait to get the new comp CD. The song "Star Baby" is one of my faves and I haven't heard it in ages- since my record player died!

Super sweet show at 7th street! What an amazing idea for a reading and the band was right on! Wish people didn't have to get their hair done at 8 a.m. so we could have stayed and heard about the rest of your life....Kudos to you lady, and thanks for the show!

Laurie, I read your book again. It is one of those books that is so full of details that I got more out of it the second time. Thanks so much for capturing that time and the music and personalities. I wish I could see you read in person at 7 Th street this month. Good luck!

I finally received your two CD's in the mail today. Why aren't you still doing this? i am greatly impressed for someone who just picked up a guitar one day and decided to be a rock star. I've been playing for about 30 years now and certaintly haven't had the sucess you've had. Way to go. Your public demands more from you. Music and books!!!

"If only somebody could come up with something different -- start a new trend. Real music. If only somebody could sing a song, had something to say, had a good melody, and could do it in person, without help from any electronics. I think people would go nuts. It's bound to happen. There's got to be a guy out there somewhere. A natural."

Aug 27 2007 2:54 PM

thanks for the add!! i work in a bookstore and your book looked so good and i must admit, i did judge a book by the cover!! the cover is way cool!! i have always been to chicken shit to be in a band but love karaoke!! cause i'll never be a rockstar, so it's all i got! but your book is amazing. it truly is an inspiring tale for any female who wants to persevere through any potential 'roadblock' that they think they may have, to get to their dream! my 14 yr old wants to be a rock star and i actually encourage her. i just make sure she studies both in school and in music!! i want her to read your book too!! thanks for being you!! your a great person!
