A Chicago-based outfit specializing in '80s-tinged pop/rock, Lacona takes its sonic cues from the Cure, the Cars, and Radiohead.
Guitarist/vocalist Geoff Dolce, keyboardist/vocalist Patrick Newberry, and drummer Andrew Grill founded the band in 2003, and the trio soon began touring Chicago's nightclub circuit. A series of early recordings helped the band establish a hometown audience, including a 2005 EP entitled Come On. The group's combination of apathetic lyrics, vocal harmonies, post-punk guitar muscle, and chilly keyboard atmospherics attracted the attention of bassist Jon Hill, who soon joined Lacona's ranks. Now a quartet, Lacona partnered with Scuzzball Records for the release of its 2008 debut, Pantomime. ~ Andrew Leahey
