Kites With Lights are from Orlando and despite the plural name, the band is actually just Jonah Cordy and a bit of technology. While that might sound like a bad thing, what Mr. Cordy manages to do w/his friends electric is simply fantastic.
Sounding like a mixture between Figurine, Orbital, old Pacific records and a healthy dose of Bernard Sumner-like vocals, Kites With Lights are a synthpop dream come true. KWLs six song demo is filled with sweeping, lush, and pristine sugar coated pop nuggets that are a complete rush to the head.
The songs will leave you numb and giddy and will cause your feet to contort into some form of dance. Even the most uncoordinated folk will find the electronic flourishes and whispery vocals difficult to resist.
The demo is littered with exuberant tunes throughout and its difficult to find anything at fault with the disc. Brand New, for example, could very well be a New Order song in disguise. While Land Called Everyone, on the other hand, is a nice mixture between Orbitals airiness and Pacifics sense of pop. Any way you slice it Kites With Lights have come up with a gem of a CD.
Kites With Lights are a pleasant surprise. While this is only a demo the CDs spacey sounds are fantastic and hint at how much potential resides within this band. Good Stuff.
