| About Kirsten Paludan |
|
My debut cd, Princess in the Tower, was released in April 2006. It is available in Kansas City at Streetside Records in Westport, Prospero's Books on 39th Street, and on the Internet via CD Baby and on ITunes.
Cheers and Reviews:
Check out this recent review of Princess in the Tower in the February 2007 issue of X magazine. And a few blurbs...
The thing about this singer/songwriter is just that; she really is a singer and really is a songwriter and does both of them incredibly well...I was blown away by her vocal aptitude and...lyrical prowess.
The Pitch had a feature article on me in their May 17th issue. Here's some of what they said:
The album incorporates an encyclopedic range of elements world-beat percussion, jazzy inflections, glazed organ tones, forlorn country guitar and her confidently seductive delivery is ethereal, almost ghostly.
From the KC Star:
On this, her debut solo CD, she goes the way of indie-folk/jazz, creating a sound that feels like a blend of Joni Mitchell and the Sundays (or the difference between Tori Amos and Jewel).
Paludan and Greg Mackender co-produced and they've given her compositions and her pretty voice room to stretch out and breathe, whether she's vamping through the bluesy Come Home (which resembles a P.J. Harvey tune all showered, shampooed and dressed-up) or skipping gently through a lullaby like Dancing.
The KC Star did an early review of my debut release and had this to say about it:
...(Kirsten's) voice sets the tone throughout her eight-cut demo, a collection of warm, rustic and austere electro-folk songs with some subtle jazz accents...
I was nominated for a 2005 Pitch Music Award for Best Female Vocalist. Here's what the music editor said in the writeup:
Kirsten Paludan has one of the purest, most unaffected voices around...Paludan is due to release a solo album shortly - a preview listen at the Pitch offices revealed an autumnal cabaret of seductive balladry.
I also sing and play guitar/keyboard in the KC band Olympic Size (listen to our in-studio performance and interview on Robert Moore's Sonic Spectrum radio show), and am a member of The Belles (2006 lineup), singing backup/playing guitar/keyboard/percussion.
