Formed in 2004, in St Andrews, they are David MacGregor (voice & guitar), Dan Sheehy (drums), Kate Lazda (voice & guitar), and Rose McConnachie (voice & bass). Over the past few years they’ve been busy writing and perfecting their noble craft, playing a barrage of live shows; notable gigs include opening for Joy Zipper, KT Tunstall, King Creosote, Camera Obscura, Glasvegas and Emma Pollock.
After re-locating to Edinburgh in 2006 they have performed at a number of festivals
including The Wickerman Festival, The Fence Homegame (for the last three years), goNorth and Glasgow’s ‘La Fete de la Musique’ - as well as receiving national radio airplay on Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 1 show and on Vic Galloway’s Radio 1 and Radio Scotland shows.
In 2007 Smash Hits was Single of the Week on Jim Gellatly’s XFM show and a video of
the single was featured on The Music Show on BBC2.
Second single “Couldn’t Dance/Teenage Fanclub Song”, released June 2008, has received yet more airplay than its predecessor, including in North America and Europe, with the band featuring as Jim Gellatly’s XFM X-posure artist in its week of release.
Their two singles so far have been released on Straight to Video Records to critical and popular acclaim, with two more planned before 2008 is done. A debut LP will follow.

Praise for Kid Canaveral
"Evocative lyrics, super indie guitars and some striking girl/guy vocal dynamics, 'the Kids really are alright" Jock Rock
"Juicy, chewy pop-kids to savour, proving that life still twitches in this indie guitar-pop business." Paul Whitelaw, The Scotsman
"It’s amazing how even their brand new pop-punk songs embed themselves in the brain, while single ‘Smash Hits’ could easily be just that." The List
"Kid Canaveral’s David MacGregor laments some poor bastard’s plight over this considered piece of up-tempo indie pop which echoes the Delgados at their most playful. Smash Hits is a refreshingly pleasant wee tune 4/5" - The Skinny
"Kid Canaveral’s debut single, Smash Hits, is the kind of joyous buzzsaw racket that’s so simple and so very effective you wonder why people don’t make it more often...They sound like they’re armed with the knowledge that music peaked in 1976 with the first Ramones album (although the Shop Assistants were pretty good) and consequently Smash Hits is the kind of dumb punk pop that so very few get right. Fewer still get it as right as this. Go and listen to them" - Fire Escape Talking
"Bouncy, quirky, often laugh-out-loud funny, 'Smash Hits' has, well smash hit written all over it. Plus it includes the line "stick it up your arse/I don't care if you think my music taste's shite". What more could you ask for? 4/5" Is This Music?
"a joyous, bouncy piece of classic Scottish indie-pop...an engaging, humorous story punchily delivered by an irrepressible wee tune." - Song, by Toad
"THE best thing to come out of St Andrews since KT Tunstall, the four-piece indie-poppers deserve just as much success...the sort of super-infectious melodies The Magic Numbers would give their bushy beards for...Picking out the best songs is a bit like trying to pick your favourite child: impossible." - Daily Record
"Their charisma lies in their self-consciousness...Kid Canaveral are a bit like The Breeders arguing about relationships with REM at a coffee morning organised by The Undertones. In other words, the kids are all right." - Barry Gordon, The Scotsman
"Superb...Kid Canaveral threatened to upstage the headliners - and possibly did in the eyes of many people. Current single Smash Hits is typical of their trademark sound - melodic and radio-friendly. There is no attempt to dilute the Scottish accent which distinguishes them from the plethora of bands accentuating South of England accents at the moment, and I would be surprised if we do not hear a lot more of this two boy/two girl combination in 2008." - Artrocker Magazine
Bouncing in on as much adequately turbulent lo-fi charm as ever, Kid Canaveral's latest single sees the Edinburgh foursome doing what they do best; wrapping their tales of social strife in more hooks than John Prescott at an egg farm....eight minutes of spiky-pop brilliance makes up these two tracks...adds to their unmistakably ace army of tunes. - Is This Music?, 4/5 (Couldn't Dance/TFS Single Review)
Oh, Lordy! It's the "Smash Hits" video from the BBC! Don't they look wonderful...
As a friend of Killaflaw we'd like to give you the opportunity of purchasing our uniquely numbered, limited edition CD single 'Revolution' which also includes the much loved 'Holy Fuck' on the B side.
There are only 1000 copies in existence and further copies will be sold without these unique numbers, so here is your chance to own a piece of music history from the LIPA award winning band dubbed by Eddy dance/rock guru Temple-Morris "the missing link between Soundgarden and The Prodigy"
The record is of course also available to buy as MP3 download.
