Influences'a really wide range of stuff. From old Dylan and Emmy Lou Harris- in fact all Dylan and Emmy Lou- to Peter Bond, Jez Lowe, Kristina Olsen, James Keelaghan. Then on the pop/rock side I've always liked del Amitri. On the bluegrass scene it has to be Tim O'Brien, and my favourite fiddle player is Martin Hayes, without a doubt.'

Kate grew up in Cornwall and plays folk music full time, mainly with UK based band Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies. She has just recorded a new CD this summer for the independent folk label Tantobie Records, and some tracks are featured here. Go to www.katebramley.com for a web release about the new CD.... and download the full album at I-Tunes

October 2006

'Little Canaan' is receiving rave reviews from the UK folk mags with Stirrings saying 'All told, this is an overwhelmingly delightful CD that surpasses even my high expectations; I love it to bits!'. The album, as we mentioned last month, is now available to download from I-Tunes, and they have just sent us a direct link for the website- check it out at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=188797561

Kate herself has just returned from a German tour for the Bad Pennies, and you can read more about that trip at her new blog at www.myspace.com/katebramley

Also we've just heard that the radio programmes 'Prairie Celidh' in Winnipeg, Canada, and 'Albion and Beyond' from Arkansas, USA will be featuring Kate's songs in the coming months.

September 2006

The new album 'Little Canaan' is out and already selling well. The album has already been featured on many of the UK's regional folk radio programmes including:

Johnny Coppin's Folk Roots Show on BBC Radio Gloucestershire http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire/local_radio/programmes/sunday/folk_roots_feature.shtml

Mick Peat and Lester Simpsons 'Fokwaves' on BBC Radio Derby http://www.bbc.co.uk/derby/local_radio/folkwaves_programme_feature.shtml?focuswin

Frank Hennessey's Celtic Heartbeat on BBC Radio Wales http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/radiowales/celticheartbeat/

Phil Brown's The Drift on BBC Radio Lancashire http://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/content/articles/2006/04/10/radio_phil_drift_feature.shtml

The distribution of the disc kicked in on 14th August and you can now see it for sale online via Amazon, Tesco and Woolworths as well as CDBaby. HMV are stocking it in high street stores so hopefully Kate is on a roll!

This month saw a rave  review in the Stirrings Magazine and the North-east's Folk Roundabout- hopefully there are many more to come!

Hi Kate

Just wanted to say your solo gig at Fylde was really enjoyable. Wish it had been longer but Stanley Accrington was a good consolation!!

Hessian is excited to present Semifinalists at our most intimate gig yet - City Screen Basement Bar on 6th June. The guys promise a blinding show, featuring an awesome new light show! NME described their live show as "a brilliantly bonkers confection: like vomiting up a Ferrari, a gram of coke and a missing child all at once." This one should not be missed for anything!

(Via satellite, I've heard, and enjoyed, Scottish junior and senior Folk Awards...when are the ENGLISH Folk Awards?!)

Poem 213 of 230, walkaboutsverse.741.com: MORE AMOR PATRIAE

There is Tai Chi AND there is tennis,
Line is fine BUT so is Morris,
There is curry AND there is the roast,
And, when England is playing host,
It is the rest-of-the-world's good wish
To sense culture that is English.

I don't normally do this kind of thing, but I'm in a mood to.

This is one of my favorite poems I read as a kid, by Robert Service, called "THE MEN WHO DON'T FIT IN".

Hope you like it.

There's a race of men that don't fit in,
A race that can't stay still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin,
And they roam the world at will.
They range the field and they rove the flood,
And they climb the mountain's crest;
Theirs is the curse of the gypsy blood,
And they don't know how to rest.

If they just went straight they might go far,
They are strong and brave and true;
But they're always tired of the things that are,
And they want the strange and new.
They say: "Could I find my proper groove,
What a deep mark I would make!"
So they chop and change, and each fresh move
Is only a fresh mistake.

And each forgets, as he strips and runs
With a brilliant, fitful pace,
It's the steady, quiet, plodding ones
Who win in the lifelong race.
And each forgets that his youth has fled,
Forgets that his prime is past,
Till he stands one day, with a hope that's dead,
In the glare of the truth at last.

He has failed, he has failed; he has missed his chance;
He has just done things by half.
Life's been a jolly good joke on him,
And now is the time to laugh.
Ha, ha! He is one of the Legion Lost;
He was never meant to win;
He's a rolling stone, and it's bred in the bone;
He's a man who won't fit in.
