| Influences | Tori Amos, Eric Whitacre, Gabriel Faure, Vienna Teng, some of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sarah Slean, Danny Elfman, Loreena McKennitt (and more, I'm sure)... |
| Sounds Like | The short answer is "Tori Amos." It wasn't intentional, but it's true that I have always admired her music. The long answer: A while back a friend of mine told me that the music on my first album sounded like Vermont. At the time I wasn't sure what he meant, but I was flattered because I take pride in the natural beauty of my homeland. A while back, however, as I was driving home, I felt the road unfolding before me, the nooks and crannies and hills and valleys shifting around me. I saw that these aligned themselves to my music, and simultaneously the music aligned itself with the workings of my human emotional experience. Spirit and physical were made one, a divine drama provided by music with a sense of purpose, a sense of direction... So, to sum, my music sounds like trees. As Kahlil Gibran put so eloquently, "Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky. We fell them down and turn them into paper that we may record our emptiness." (Now THERE'S a poet!) |
