Kai Starr's Interests

| General | Writing, reading, making comics, playing guitar, singing, recording music, songwriting, dancing, driving fast, cuddling my sweetie, eating dark chocolate (especially eating it off of my sweet-n-yummy girlie). Actually, I have far too many interests to list in here. Some of them don't last very long (like the momentary fling I had with oil painting), while others hug me like fresh cling wrap and are life-long interests (like music, writing and art). It's easy for me to make friends, because I can almost always find SOMETHING that we have in common. | | Music | My own, mostly. I sing, play guitar and bass and some keyboard, and write my own songs. I used to be in bands, but haven't done that in years. Don't think I really want to, any more, as the politics piss me off. If I can play it all, I'll record it all, myself. I am the band and the band is me!
I like a lot of different kinds of music, ranging from obscure Italian Renaissance lute pieces to Mozart harpsichord concerti to 1940s pop to all-kinds-of-rock to punk to disco to...you get the idea. But my big love is the blues. I loooooooooove the blues! Probably the first song I release on MP3 will be one of my blues songs, because I can play them without drums. (I got no drums, you see...)
Anyway, I may post some of my music, here, someday. It may be easier than putting it on my website, where I do have an easter egg or two hidden for the astute. Not full songs, though. Just a little funky theme I wrote for a fellow cartoonist, a sampled piece, and a couple of bits of me fiddling around on the electric bass. Nothing to speak of, really. Not yet, anyway. mwahaha!

Almost anything by Hitchcock, but especially North by Northwest. The Dirty Dozen. The Guns of Navarone. Tonari no Totoro. Anything by Kurosawa, but especially Yojimbo and Seven Samurai. Silents, like Broken Blossoms, the Black Pirate, or anything with Douglas Fairbanks, Sr in it. Moody Cocteau pieces. Jackie Chan bits o' silly. LotR. The original Star Wars trilogy. Actually, I'm kind of picky about films. I don't see many new ones, because most of them simply don't interest me, at all. I see the ads for them, and go, "Meh." Then I go play guitar. (~-^) | | Television | Television is for losers. Unless it's Britcoms, which I like. Of those, Red Dwarf, BlackAdder, Father Ted and Coupling are my current faves. I also like those science shows they sometimes air on PBS, like Nova. Yeah, I'm a tv geek. Who has time for tv, when there's so much music to be made?! | | Books | Wodehouse's "Jeeves" books. About anything by C.J. Cherryh, Poul Anderson, Junichiro Tanizaki or Marion Zimmer Bradley. My shelves have everything from art to comics to computer nerdy stuff to history to classics to science fiction to hard science tech books to music to martial arts to religions to philosophies to... I'm going to run out of space, if I go on like this. (O.o) | | Heroes | My lady, who is the main reason I'm still alive and anywhere near sane, right now. My late sister, who had a houseful of other people's abandoned and abused children and loved them with all her heart. My other sister, who does the same thing with cats, dogs, and wayward kids. Marie, who was there for me and loved me when no one else did. Houlgate, who gave me not only her friendship and love, but her wisdom. Is it strange that all my heroes are women? Well, I don't think so. I love women. |

I'm Kai. I am an artist, writer, musician, poet, pilot, chocoholic, alien, speed freak, and kitten-loving weird guy. Among other odd things. In my own opinion, I am a complex, interesting, and strange, if often difficult, kind of person.
