Washingtonian Magazine described us as "beer-and-babes radio but with a lot of heart." We'll take it. We're really just four idiots from PG County in the heart of Maryland who got lucky with a radio show. EB, Cakes and JP grew up in Bowie while Lurch hails from Lanham. You can take the boy outta the hood, but you can't take the hood outta the boy.
The Junkies are four guys from PG County, MD, who blew up on the WJFK airwaves starting in the summer of 1996. John Auville (Cakes), Eric Bickel (EB), Jason Bishop (Lurch) and John-Paul Flaim (JP) started a cable access tv show in Bowie in 1995. Now you can listen to them every morning on 106.7 FM WJFK in DC. If you haven't heard the show, you're a donkey!
The Junkies got their big break in 1996 when the Washington Times wrote an article about their tv show. WJFK gave them a shot on the weekends and the boys blew up. In 1997 they took over for the Greaseman at nights and the rest is history. The Junkies were on from 7-11 pm for over five years and were nationally syndicated before they moved to morning drive on 99.1 WHFS in October of 2002.
In January of 2005, 99.1 flipped formats to Spanish and the Junkies returned to their roots at WJFK in the midday slot. On January 3rd, 2006, the Junkies took over the morning airwaves in DC (106.7 FM) that was occupied by Howard Stern for so many years. The Junkies are heard from 5-10am daily. SPREAD THE WORD! 7/21 - This past week, John "Cakes" Auville (far left) was voted as the sexiest Junkie on WJFK-FM in Round 25 of DCRTV's Battle Of The Local Media Hotties. JP Flaim (far right) came in second, Jason "Lurch" Bishop third (middle right), and Eric "EB" Bickel (middle left) fourth. With more than 1,200 votes cast since last weekend. Stay tuned for another "hottie" battle soon.....
