| About Josh Hungate |
|
Josh was born into a musical family and trained as a violinist from a young age. After moving on to the more unique and versatile mandolin and gaining recognition as one of the premier young mandolinists in the high-stakes, cut throat arena that is the midwest bluegrass festival circuit, he joined up with innovative singer/songwriter Jennifer Lynn Smith, rounding out her Kansas City based band Song of Zion. Their mix of contemporary Christian lyrics with skillful musicianship has been entertaining coffeehouses and Christian concert stages for almost two years.
While playing and recording with Song of Zion, Josh began writing songs for his own indie project, On My Way, currently nearing completion. The album showcases his technique on the mandolin and his vibrant songwriting style as he trades chops with flatpicking guitarists from throughout the midwest.
With his recent win in the prestigious Walnut Valley Mandolin Championship, Josh Hungate is quickly becoming one of the most prominent unsigned mandolin players in the nation. Currently forming a small band, The J-Unit, Josh plans to tour the Kansas City area in support of his upcoming record.
