JOIYA was formed in December 2001 by guitarist Nolan Simon and violinist/pianist Cassandra Verras. In March 2002, drummer Michael Hardin was added, and after many, MANY member additions, deletions and changes the quartet came into its final lineup with the addition of cellist Kaylan Mitchell in December 2003. JOIYA released their first full length, titled Sometimes Is And Kinda, in August 2004.
Currently, the members of JOIYA are spread across state lines and working with new bands and projects, most notably The Silent Years and Canada. There is hope, however, that they will finish and release their second record sometime in 2008.
ive been listening alot to the unfinished album. and all i can think is that that last little part in your about joiya better be true. this part "There is hope, however, that they will finish and release their second record sometime in 2008." yeah, ive been hoping for quite some time.
i am listening to your album for the first time in forever. i lost it, and just found it. so happy i found it. i love you guys so much. i hope you are all well. and i want to book you sometime in the future. whenever your able. stay well. <3
just wanted to make sure you knew the "moth" preorders are opened up at dovecote records , and that if you preorder it you also get a free 7" vinyl picture disc with a new song and a poster.
also, we will write a letter on your behalf to an estranged cousin that you don't even know exists yet, beckoning them back into your life. when they suddenly appear at your doorstep, and the confusion subsides, it will (for various reasons) be very clear why they were estranged and you will want to re-estrange them immediately.
It was a fine show you played at Small's the other night. Mr. Lawson tells me that it was on short practice that you performed, which is incredible, really. Well, well, well, well done. I'm glad I was able to finally make it out to see you.
I heart your music majorly - if any of you are in the area and free next week, I would be so humbled to meet you at one of our Detroit area shows! Stop by and see us.
Take care,

Your show last night was one of the most beautiful we have seen in ages. The new songs are majestic. You are all so wonderful....New York is overrated!
I tried playing my Joiya CD and my Canada CD at the same time to get a leg up on what Joy of Canada might be like, but I regret to say it kind of sounded jumbled up and nonsensical. I probably could have anticipated that if my brain had not been removed when I was eight and replaced with cauliflower.
you guys are truly wonderful. do you have any upcoming shows? i would drive practically anywhere in MI to see you play. thanks for making such awesome music.
xox,
Annie
PS- Kaylan, I saw you play with Canada at Macs this weekend- you guys were AWESOME! I took several photographs, you can view them at:
