I am a Chicago based musician who plays many styles of music, but mainly rock, jazz, classical and acoustic music on piano and guitar. I also sing and play bass, djembe, harmonica, and organ. I teach both piano and guitar privately.
I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I played guitar in the jazz band, piano in the U of I Jazz Messengers combo, and guitar in the classical guitar quartet. I played guitar and sang in the band Ground Zero/Cleveland Pete (Rich Clark- Bass and Vocals, Rob Dubois- Drums, Chris Mahieu- Piano).
Most recently I have been performing mainly solo acoustic shows at bars and coffee houses in the Chicagoland area. In addition, I play weddings and private parties, and do studio recordings.
Regardless of the musical setting, I always try to play from the heart and to communicate directly with the audience. I believe that music has the power to heal as well as to unite, inspire, and entertain; the best musicians do all of these things simultaneously.
Music has given me an incredible amount of peace and joy. It is my sincere hope that it has done and continues to do the same for you. Peace.
Word on the street is that you're coming home Saturday, and that makes me and everyone else in Chicago very happy. Ah you probably won't read this for a while, but I hope you had a good trip.
Joe D. a man i've missed. we've all missed. theres a johnny cash tribute in November 13th, i think you might be back then, want to contribute a tune or two>?
Yo Joe, it's been a while. Glad to hear that you hit the road like your were planning. I just got back stateside...will be back in Chi-city in the Fall, safe travels man and see you back on the scene. Oh yeah, I really dug what you added to Rego's EP, it kept me company in The Gambia.
Hey Joe, I know we keep missing each other, but if you're still in town and not busy this coming Tuesday (Aug. 28), I'm playing with Crystal Bowersox at Uncommon Ground from 8 to 10. Hopefully I'll see you before you leave, if you haven't already :)
Joe, we had a great time in Chicago. Many thanks for your hospitality and kindness. It made our trip that much better. Your friends, The Farewell Drifters
