    Jim's Interests
GeneralMusic, biking, Linux and Open Source Software, making the world a better place. I've done a little "geocaching" lately; it's good fun! Oh, I also make soap, and my friends tell me it's really good! (I like it, too.)
MusicBeatles, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, Green Day, Doc Watson, old country, classic rock, folk, bluegrass, Big Band Swing (Glen Miller and such) classical, whatever. I've been listening to some Death Cab for Cutie lately; they're great!
MoviesRarely watch them, but if you want to watch one, let's go! I recently watched (again) "Conviction", a documentary about three nuns who took literally the suggestion in Isaiah to "beat swords into plowshares." Highly recommended.
TelevisionA vast wasteland. Kill your TV.
BooksBooks I have read recently include: "American Fascists: the Christian Right and the war on America" by Chris Hedges; "Losing Moses on the Freeway: the 10 commandments in America" by Chris Hedges; "War is a force that gives us meaning" by Chris Hedges; "The complex : how the military invades our everyday lives" by Nick Turse; "Collateral Damage: America's war against Iraqi civilians" by Chris Hedges and Laila Al-Arian; "Your Inner Fish" by Neil Shubin; "The End of Food" by Paul Roberts; "Write your heart out" by Rebecca McClanahan; "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson; "A broom of one's own: words on writing, housecleaning, and life" by Nancy Peacock; "The new village green: living light, living local, living large" by Stephen Morris and the editors of Green living; "World Made By Hand" by James Howard Kunstler; "Peak Everything: waking up to the century of declines" by Richard Heinberg; "Bringing the food economy home: local alternatives to global agribusiness" by Helena Norberg-Hodge, Todd Merrifield and Steven Gorelick; "Eating fossil fuels: oil, food and the coming crisis in agriculture" by Dale Allen Pfeiffer. I often forget to enter the books I've read here, but this gives you an idea of what I read anyway.
HeroesJesus, Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Albert Einstein, anybody who works for peace and justice. John Lennon and George Martin. Linus Torvalds and Richard Stallman, anybody who writes Open Source software.

About me:
I believe we all have a responsibility to make the world a better place, and I try to take that responsibility seriously. I spend a lot of time informing people about social injustices, poverty and hunger, economic exploitation of undeveloped nations by developed nations, global warming, and other important issues. I believe a world in which everyone has enough to eat, adequate health care and education are available to everyone, and war is a last resort, is possible - but you and I have to work to make it happen. I write about this stuff sometimes - click here to visit my blog. When I'm not saving the world, I'm riding my bike, doing live sound or recording engineering, doing electronic hardware design or writing software, maybe taking a hike or pretending like I'm a photographer, or reading, or reading, or READING! Hey, I also write songs - wanna hear some of my stuff? Here ya go:

P.S. - If you're going to send me a Friend Request, please also send me a message so I know who you are. Else if I don't know you, I'm likely to deny your request.
Who I'd like to meet:
I'd like to make some new friends to hang out with, go biking and hiking with, maybe play some music with. I'd like to meet other social activists. And I'd like to meet nice women for friendship/dating/relationship.

You sure have been quiet these past few days. Hope that means you're getting out and enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend. Especially yesterday... Unbelievable!! Anyways, I thought I would say hello. I visited with Josh the other day. (Something I don't do nearly enough.) He sure does impress me. And on the guitar!?! Wow! Well, enjoy what's left of your weekend. I'm off to do some chores.

Just wanted to say thanks for the words of wisdom you shared. =) I do appreciate it! Even after 12 1/2 years of marriage & 14 1/2 years together I still feel new at this. Haha! (Of course, not much to model my own marriage after in this family, is there?) Hope you are enjoying the snow... I'm about to take the kids out sledding!! ttyl
