the new cd is here! let me tell you just a bit about it. i went to nashville for a couple of weeks in april to record. even if i weren't a musician, i would think nashville was a great town. good weather. awesome food. and i got to hang out with lots of old friends. and i even made some new ones. the cd was produced by a swell guy named mitch dane. he won a grammy for his work with jars of clay. he's also quite involved with young life, which i can really get behind. ben mize (counting crows) came in to play the drums. he's tall. and a good drummer, to boot. aaron sands played the electric bass. his wife just ran a 1/2 marathon. that's pretty cool. then steve mason (jars of clay) came in to add some guitars (all the really great slide guitar stuff is him). i did all of the lead and most of the harmony vocals, but we wanted another voice on the album, so we brought in andrew osenga (caedmon's call, the normals). he sings like a bird, i tell ya. the basic tracks took very little time, as we even did some of it live (a rarity in today's musical world). we added cello, farfisa, tambourine and anything else we could find lying around. vance powell mixed it. vance is nashville's best kept secret. he turned these little pop tunes into big pop tunes. the final step was mastering. we let richard dodd do that. he's done the last several tom petty records, so i figured i could trust him. and now the cd is done. oh, i forgot to mention... my old friend ledbetter (www.thezooagency.com) took some photos and designed the cd sleeve. it is, without question, a fine piece of art.
and that, in a nutshell, is how this cd (it's called put me together) got made. if you have any money, go ahead and buy it. you can get it at www.authenticrecordsonline.com or on my site, www.jerry-chapman.com. if you don't have any money, have a friend burn you a copy. i want you to hear these songs.
some other stuff about me... i live in a small town in north carolina. i've released 6 cd's with life in general. a fine little band... www.lifeingeneral.com. i've also recorded 3 solo albums. i've got a wife & 2 kids. they all rock. i ride a unicycle & run marathons. would love to be a vegetarian, but i love sushi, so i guess i'm a pescatarian. drop me a line. buy my records. if you're ever in the area, you've got a place to crash.
Didn't get that til almost midnight. Hate I missed it. Definitely need to get out there and see you soon. We might just have to come up with a plan to play the same show... then we'll definitely be able to catch one another in the act! Take care, see you soon! ~Matt
you spaz. you've met my man....in Charlotte at that artsy fartsy non-smoking bar you play in the No Da district. geesh. LOL. Hope you had fun last night. I'll see what I can do about Saturday. (",)
