Recently awarded the 2014 Folk and Traditional Arts Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, Jennifer Licko is quickly making Minnesota home and sharing her music with new fans in the midwest.
Originally from North Carolina, Jennifer masterfully combines the Bluegrass and Country music from her American roots with traditional Celtic music of her ancestors. “I find myself relaxing, enjoying Jennifer’s flawless voice and finding the roots that are similar in tradition to American Folk music”, Says Dennis Halsey from Best Female Musicians.

Jennifer is an exceptional vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who plays the piano, guitar, and bodhrán (Irish drum). By living and touring all over the world Jennifer has not only experienced a variety of cultural traditions, but she has also developed a passion for the preservation of these traditions. When you listen to Jennifer perform, you are reminded of your roots and you feel like you belong. “We all want to belong to something bigger than us” says Licko, “the truth is that we all DO belong. We just need to stay connected to our traditions. I hope my performances help bring audiences to that place.”

Jennifer's background in education led her to the decision to share her cultural experiences with the next generation through school programs. She created interactive and engaging educational programs of music and dance to enrich students’ awareness of cultural diversity. Jennifer presents to schools throughout the United States. She is currently living in Minnesota and also performing nationally with either her traditional music duo (Gaelic songs and pipe music from the Western Isles) or her Celtic band. You can find Jennifer performing at an elementary school, formal concert series, a loud Irish pub or a family oriented festival. Jennifer’s recordings are all available on itunes and include: Cave of Gold, Language of the Gaels, Celtic Moonsongs for Sydney and her most recent; A Thousand Curses Upon Love.
