I usually fly solo (vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, harp), but the artists featured on my CD are:
backing vocals - Sarah Mahoney
harmonica - Dave Scheffel
cello - Andrew Brown
alto sax - Melissa Molfetas
electric guitar - Torey Adler
Influences
Direct stylistic influences include: Ryan Adams, Matthew Banks, Jim Brickman, Norah Jones, Marian McPartland, (70's) Tom Waits, (early 90's) Mariah Carey, Eva Cassidy, and Sarah McLachlan. Inspirations are all over the map, but the most notable are other local musicians--check them out in my top friends.
Sounds Like
a mix between folk, jazz, and pop styles; "Songs of a Romantic Nature" [so says Brett Gillen]; the most common comparison people make is Norah Jones.
I'm a 22-year-old piano technician (apprentice), and I live, work, and play in NY's Capital/Saratoga region.
I've been writing and performing since Fall 2004 (though I've played piano since I was 7 or so, and have always been in band/chorus/orchestra/what-have-you). I recorded my first full-length CD fall of 2006--it doubled as part of my senior project as a music major at Skidmore College. It's now available for sale via my website, CDbaby, and iTunes (among others).
I also play harp (since 2004) and a little bit of guitar (since 2006), both of which are on the CD.

Okay, but... I just talked to Dave and Casey Shaver and they are going to attend Jitters on Wednesday. So, I'm sticking to my plan of going to Jitters tomorrow. And I'm thinking about doing Daily Grind too since Dave and Gail will most likely be there (and Maurizio hosting is like extra cheese if this whole thing were a pizza).
Thank you SOOOOOOO much for posting the link to Casey and Dave wedding pics!! I kept thinking about it as we drove north to our other friends' wedding. The weather was absolutely PERFECT! I'm glad we get to live vicariously through your pictures. It looks like a wonderful time.
As for open mics, I think I'm planning on hitting Jitters on Wednesday, but I'm not sure about Daily Grind, yet (it's a longer trip). If a good sized Lena's crowd is heading up to Troy, however, I might be persuaded.
ps -- that was the longest myspace comment I've ever received.
The documentary came out great! I'm uploading it now, but I think I'm going to have trouble because it is 11 minutes and youtube apparently has a 10 minute limit... So, I may have to cut some... Anyways, as soon as I get it up, I'll let you know.
Also, I was thinking, since there is no Lena's this week, we can always get people to meet up at Jitters.
hey there :) I have a gig this Thurs... also Friday and Sat. pretty busy week - the Thurs gig is actually a competition - if we win we get 1,000 dollars - studio time and - a free years strings -- in my case that's about 500 packs ;)anyways.. seems like it's worth the deal - you are leaving soon and also have a B-day coming up :) lets try and see each other before then :) M
Sorry about the "no HTML" thing. I had spam at one point.
Anyways, the graph cracked me up!
While I'm here, I noticed in your blog that you are down to your final two weeks of Saratoga life :( I thought I'd give ya an FYI. I noticed that Caffe Lena has a performer booked on the 29th so there is no open mic. Which means you better come to this week's open mic!!!! And maybe I'll play one of the "Once" songs.
going to hit browns in troy -- last open mic (thought the last was last week ;) -- should be a blast - maybe bring your keyboard and play a few -- its a great crowd there. M
...if you feel like a trek to albany, we're wrapping up 2007 with a great evening of music this friday night. Palatypus, the Basement Band, Grimis, and Margan & the Red Lions will all be playing. Hey! I finally gave your CD a "real" listen. It's amazing! Your songs are so wonderful and the recordings are done really well. There is certainly an overall tone to the collection of songs that definitely has an effect on the mood of the listener--or so it did in my case. I'm also impressed with the guest musicians. Although, I think the best part of the CD is when the cello comes in on "Unfolded;" I actually welled up with emotion... I didn't cry, mind you. I just felt emotion well up. I'm not a sissy! Really. I'm just trying to give a great compliment to a great musician!
I hope that more people give your CD a "real" listen and experience what I experienced.
