"The burden of the South's tragically beautiful history is reflected in Jeff Holmes' lyrics, where Holmes brilliantly, playfully, and reverently portrays the absurdities and contrasts of the South. From plantations backed up against the parking lot of the Paradise disco which is "choking on vines" to the town drunks and the voodoo women who prowl the South, as well as the ornate chandeliers hanging in abandoned mansions, Holmes' lyrics and, seemingly his heart, are enrapt by the South much like kudzu imprisons southern roadways. Paying homage to Faulkner with "A Rose for Emily" and other lyrics, Holmes also echoes Tennessee Williams in that he is always championing the disenfranchised and those on the fringes with his lyrical parade of Southern gothic and grotesque characters. Finally, in the steps of the mighty southern word slingers before him, Holmes humorously gives life to the poor, white trash of the South (See "Scrawny Little Outlaw" and others); however, these characters serve in juxtaposition to other characters like the uppity church ladies and the underhanded pillar of the church. These characters are poor, trashy, and often a little more than left of center, but Holmes' characterization of these folks is almost forgiving in that these people, regardless of the scorn they receive, wake everyday with the knowledge of who they are and never apologize for it. Jeff Holmes, through his reverence to words and his profound love of the South, inspired me to teach English, and he taught me how to be proud of being southern."

Who I'd like to meet: I am obsessed with conservation of the biodiversity, ecology, and rural heritage of the Southern Experience. I'd like to meet fewer vehicles on the road. Fewer traffic jams. Fewer strip malls. Fewer subdivisions. Fewer bulldozers burying the Wild South under insatiable sprawl. Fewer people, more South for me!
There is a stream of well-being that is always available to us. All we have to do is allow it. Letting go of the resistance that is holding us back from the things we truly desire allows us to flow freely downstream. Once you are caught up in this current, you will start to feel an overwhelming sense of joy and all the things that you have been asking for through your thoughts will start to manifest. Life was meant to be joyful!
Well, I was hoping those tickets would go on sale at midnight on the 20th. (I'm off work tomorrow.) Now, I'll have to get someone to distract the boss so that I can go online at work & get those choice seats.
Okay, so here's the thing. You need to come hang with us next Friday night and bring your whole crew with you. We frickin' guarantee you will have a blast. August 15th. Write it down.
This will be the party of the century. Seriously, like, the best thing to happen in Nashville since…um…2000. This century isn't all that old yet, eh?
No opening acts, just us with some special surprise guests - several hours of music...a mix of our stuff with a bunch of killer 80's songs you can sing along with while everybody drinks, dances, drinks some more, sweats and spills shit, sings, dances and has a few more drinks.
It will be a sad thing if you're not there. Sadness sucks. Come party instead and be happy. Happiness rules.
