   About Jason
Jason Killingsworth was born in Galway, Ireland, and raised in Dublin till age seven, at which time his parents relocated to Southern California where he had to memorize the Pledge of Allegiance and suffer the pestering of classmates who made fun of his Irish accent until it disappeared. Intolerant little pricks.

Jason plays guitar (John Mayes Custom Parlor acoustic), pipes (Michael Vignoles half-set, Seth Gallagher chanter) and whistle (Overton low D by Colin Goldie) in the Atlanta-based Irish trad band, Music In The Glen. They just released their debut CD, Fuar, a winter/holiday album.

Jason also serves as the Deputy Editor and Games Editor for an entertainment magazine called Paste. Even though he spends his afternoons scouring stacks of new music--pop, indie rock, Americana, punk, electronica, silky-smooth jazz (ok, no smooth jazz)--he fills his iPod with Seamus Ennis, Brian McNamara, Paddy Keenan, Liam O’Flynn and David Power, to name just a few.

Jason’s been playing guitar since ’92, house since ’04 (wife’s name is Summer), pipes and whistle since late ’05, and writing third-person bios since just now.

HI Jason,

I was just forwarded your article from Paste magazine about the pipes and growing up in Ireland. Very nice writing and very enjoyable to read. I experienced similar wanderings as a toddler. Once a lorry driver walked into the house with me in his arms, "Is this yours?" he asked my Mum. You can imagine her surprise ;)

Anyway, best of luck with the pipes. Where are you in So Cal? Have you been a club meeting? www. socalpipers. com

Pat.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get down to Atlanta this weekend. I was hoping to hang out/help out with drone reeds, but it'll have to wait. Hopefully, we'll be able to visit sometime soon though. Matt

Awesome! Let me know what you think. Hopefully, the reed will work fine. It will probably need tweaking though, as reeds from pipe-makers are usually about 90% finished. Send me a line if ya need any help, been doing the reed thing as long as the pipe thing (I like pipes better!). Matt

Hey Jason, how's it going? Kat gave me a copy of the album, and it sounds great. We'll have to have some chunes and a pint next time I come up. Pelham ended up taking that spare set of pipes away from me when he moved to Boston, that bastard. It's probably for the better anyways!

Poem-come-song 101 of 230, from walaboutsverse.741.com: JUST SUBSIST

At times when I’ve had time to take,
I’ve thought of a plot by a lake:
The plot would be of fertile ground;
The lake would have some trout around.

The plot’s house would be made of brick -
Well insulated, in good nick.
And round this abode there’d be built -
Solar panels, kept at best tilt.

Inside large coops would run the legs
Of chooks and quails - for fresh eggs.
A vine for grapes plus summer shade;
And, in thin beds, vegetables laid.

Up at dawn, to use all sunlight -
Fish and farm by day, read at night.
A spouse with me I’d not resist -
In retirement, we’d just subsist.

Hey...trust me Jason. U r wise to acquire a concert chanter from Seth. His are more or less based on a Johnny Bourke/Rowsome bore...which is good! I love mine #46. Never played a better chanter. I really liked David Powers' Alain Froment chanter though. Go with Seth. you won't be disapointed. mattmc

It was great to talk with you today, too, and to discover that we both suffer from spleen pain because of Bjork. Thanks again for meeting with me.
