Polish musician Anextiomarus (vocals, guitar and bass) founded Infernum in 1992 with the help of drummer Tom Balrog, and despite the duo's relative isolation in the southwestern Polish city of Wroclaw, they soon managed a pair of 1993 demos: "Damned Majesty" and "The Dawn Will Never Come" -- which were clearly inspired by the primal black metal of Venom, Hellhammer, and, notorious Norwegian inner circle acts like Mayhem, Burzum, and Darkthrone.
Balrog quit suddenly the following year, but Anextiomarus barely seemed to notice before recruiting new drummer Capricornus and keyboardist Rob Darken to record 1994's Taur-Nu-Fuin album -- after which his drive faltered and Infernum ground to a seemingly final halt. Until 2002, that is. when Anextiomarus decided to revive his old band with new members Necromanticus (guitar), Wolf (bass), Exterminus (keyboards), and Charon (drums). This lineup set to work on a new Infernum album to be titled The Curse, but by the time it was released through Sound Riot Records, in 2006, Anextiomarus was sadly two years in the ground, having committed suicide on April 30, 2004 -- Walpurgis Night. The remaining members of Infernum have vowed to carry on with the band in his honor. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
