   About iamchemist

Biography (July 2008)

Influenced by electronic bands such as Hoboken, Salon Boris and White Rose Movement amongst many others, keytar wielding electro solo artist iamchemist initially formed as a studio project in November 2005, crafting twisted yet danceable synth-led electro-indie covers of artists such as Pulp and The Rakes.

In Spring 2007, bored of being purely a covers act, the first original material from iamchemist surfaced, embracing a much darker musical direction. Lyrically embracing subjects such as sex, death and the civil service, songs such as the heartbreaking, lush, synth-led 'Closure', 'Four Mistakes' and the drum-machine heavy, sardonic anthem to the crushing monotony of the civil servant, 'A Sense of Purpose' (which also featured on the Oran Mor Autumn 2007 band sampler CD) soon appeared.

Radio plays have included BBC Radio Scotland, XFM Scotland, All FM Manchester and BBC Radio 1.

As a live act, iamchemist first appeared at legendary Glasgow electronic club night 'The End of The Month Club' at the 13th Note Café in April 2006, alongside Amsterdam-based electro duo Persil, CNUT and resident act Bozilla, before playing two further gigs in June that year. September 2006 saw the proper emergence of iamchemist as a live act, leading to an opening slot for world-renowned electronic artist and ex-Frou Frou singer Imogen Heap in front of 1,200 people, at a sold out show at Glasgow's ABC venue, in only the eighth iamchemist show. Further shows in 2006 saw appearances at the STFU Glasgow electronic music festival, the Electroclash club night at Glasgow's Oran Mor, and a New Year's Eve show headlining the End of The Year Club.

2007 has saw iamchemist develop further as a live act, leading to further appearances at Oran Mor, Liquid Rooms, and also a successful excursion to the Scram! Live club night held in London, held at the renowned venue The Rhythm Factory. In March 2007, iamchemist played a sold out show supporting critically-acclaimed act The Hours, and September 2007 saw a support slot for much-praised Glasgow act Union of Knives. March 2008 saw iamchemist supporting London upstarts We Smoke Fags.

At present, iamchemist is currently working on new material about subjects such as medical progress, political rhetoric and idle threats, family problems and bad dancing.

"Commandeering his keyboards and samples with an adroitness that was almost psychotic in execution". - The Glasgow Reviewer, September 2006.

HELP US SAVE CAPITOL!!!!

I am absolutely dismayed as to the reasons behind the shutting of Capitol...

Myself and Mandy love working there & we have worked really hard to make sure that every band that comes to OUR venue is treated well & has the best possible sound.

We really do care about Capitol, we look after our kit and the venue to keep it in the best shape we can, putting in LOADS of extra UNPAID hours just to try and make it a cut above the rest of the crap out there in Glasgow, and i think everyone, ourselves, you guys the musicians & all of the great promoters have succeeded in building something rare & special, a venue that actually gives a shit!

I seriously hope G1 will see that this is something worth saving, not just for the sake of a couple of jobs, myself's and Mandy's - but for the sake of the whole Glasgow music scene.
If you've ever played at Capitol, had a good time and been treated well, don't be lethargic if you're sitting there reading this - all it will take is two minutes to leave a comment on the Capitol myspace supporting the cause & hopefully we can swing it!

Click on the banner above to go to the Capitol myspace & help us out!

Cheers.

Roddy
