Finland’s Husky Rescue is a fairytale for grown-ups, existing in a faraway land somewhere between Pan’s Labyrinth and Moomins.
Their music tickles the fancy of the deepest recesses of our most whimsical imagination, yet remains tethered toreality by true poignancy and perceptiveness. Lyrics laced with images of love are delivered with longing melancholy. Hard to place into any easy genre classification, Husky Rescue’s sound reconstitutes pieces of alt. country, depressive disco, and ambient pop into an incomparably distinctive, cinematic universe.

The band took shape in the early 21st century, as gentleman multi-instrumentalist Marko Nyberg pulled together 20-odd musician pals under the banner of Husky Rescue. Since that initial gathering, the project has only picked up speed. Between 2004 and 2015, Rescue has released four full-length albums and mixes/rarities compilation, as well as a plethora of singles and EPs. Across these albums one sees the growth of Nyberg’s skill and confidence, from a young artist honing his craft to the seasoned veteran having fun with his immense talents.

Husky Rescue’s debut album, Country Falls, hit stores in October of 2004. It remains their most bare-bones and thoroughly chill album, opening on an adorable ode toa sleepy kitten and culminating with a progressive tale of a good man. Ghost Is Not Real came out in January of 2007, turning up the sonic experimentation and detailed production without sacrificing the catchy, pop aesthetic. Ship Of Light was released in January of 2010 and The Long Lost Friend in May of 2013. All of these albums were consistently met by positive reviews in Pitchfork, Tiny Mix Tapes, Allmusic, The Guardian, and musicOMH, among other such reputablesources of music criticism. - Alan Ranta
