About HOW FAR TO AUSTIN - July 26th @ Kinetic Playground
..
..
The Pioneer Press recently called Chicago based sextet HOW FAR TO AUSTIN ". . . a raucous blend of Elvis Costellos' irreverent 'radio, radio' era rock and the finest soul of the late, great James Brown - a live show you should stretch out for!"
The band likes to think of themselves as hot as a pistol rock 'n roll laced with incredible lyrical depth; keen musicianship; and unforgetable vocal melodies that border on the addictive.
However you sum it up, the highly energetic one-of-a-kind pop/rock/soul blend that defines HOW FAR TO AUSTIN has contributed to the fast growth of a loyal fanbase and a reputation as a must-see live act in the midwest.
HOW FAR TO AUSTIN has made themselves comfortable on some of the most notable stages in the midwest and performed with a number of amazing regional/national acts including HELLO DAVE; THE NADAS; MR. BLOTTO; GHETTOBILLIES; DOMESTIC PROBLEMS; DAVE TAMKIN; THE AUGUST; SIMMERING; and many more.
HOW FAR TO AUSTIN is made up of Guitarist TATE TROELSTRUP (who also pens all the music & lyrics); Vocalist DERRICK MITCHELL; Vocalist KATIE TROELSTRUP; Drum Smith PAUL OBIS; Sax Man NICOLAS RANUCCI; & Bassist ANDREW HINTZ.
The band is near completion of their as-yet-untitled 2nd release (1st with Vocalist Derrick Mitchell at the helm) and will release it officially May 31st at the rock music mecca Double Door, right here at home in Chicago.

Great job in the Lollapalooza Contest guys. Thanks for filling that slot at Chicago City Limits, we just played there, and had to turn it down. I am glad it worked out for you! Hopefully we can see each other out.
anyway, just wanted to say -- great show at double door, and i picked up the new cd while i was there -- wonderful as usual. i loaded it into my iPod, so now every once in awhile, i hear some HFTA as i work the elliptical and weights at the gym!
i'm so sorry i didn't get to talk to you guys much after your show. i had way too many long islands... i'm gonna try to get to the molly malone's show saturday -- weirdly enough, i don't live that far now that i'm on the northwest side of the city -- and maybe we can catch up then.
Hey guys – Just stopping by to invite you to our Martyrs’ show this Friday June 13th. We’ll be joined by hometown friends, 56 Hope Road and Eli Jones, and we’ll also be giving away tickets to The Lazy River Music and Arts Festival! It’s our only hometown appearance on the books for the summer, so we hope you can join us for this great night of Chicago music!
You can also catch us at a number of Midwest festivals this summer, from Minnesota to Iowa to Ohio and points in between. Visit our myspace page or website for all the details!
