Citing influences that include hardcore rave (e.g., the Prodigy's "Charley"), British garage/2-step, and New York garage/house, the twentysomething producer made his commercial recording debut in 2008 with the Yeah!/Head Work EP on the London-based Highpoint Lowlife label. "Yeah!" became something of an underground sensation, and Hot City was spotlighted on Mary Anne Hobbs' influential Radio 1 show in November 2008. The following year Hot City contributed a freely downloadable DJ mix to FACT magazine's podcast series and released a couple more EPs: Ike Release vs. Hot City (2009) on Infrasonics and Hot City Bass (2009) on Ramp Recordings. ~ Jason Birchmeier
