HEIFER’s FIRST SINGLE (2000)
mp3.com.au/Heifer
Influences
Helmet, Frank Zappa, System of a Down, Tool, Metallica, Mark of Cain, Dead Kennedys, Slipknot, Ministry, Suicidal Tendencies, ...
Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Heifer's new album, titled "The Judas Belt", is now available in Australia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
They made a brief visit to Europe in 2006 and, after only two weeks and four shows, managed to attract a small but enthusiastic following with some intense, legendary live shows. It was obvious to all who saw them why they had built a cult following in their home country.
As a result of the 2006 tour, the band attracted label interest in Europe which led to the album being released there in July 2007. They have just returned from another very successful tour (June and July 2007) in support of the album release.
HEIFER have been described as an alternative/metal band, but there’s so much more to them than that. Whilst they cite influences such as Helmet, AC/DC and System of a Down among many others, what they actually produce on “The Judas Belt” is a style all their own - heavy guitars with virtuosic drums and rasping vocals, interspersed with moments of melodic instrumental and vocal lines, and some odd time signatures. As acknowledged by Australian heavy music website “Faster Louder”:
“To their credit, their sound is nothing like the predictable retro-rock you'll hear 'representing' Australia overseas or on the country's 'pop' radios - HEIFER are an original band with a punch to pack and something real to say, as shown by ‘The Judas Belt’, their first full-length album.” – www.fasterlouder.com.au
This album feels like a punch in the face both musically and lyrically – an alt/metal aural assault, with lyrics inspired by current world events, as well as some dark auto-biographical accounts. Heifer writes songs about things that are important – both on a personal level to themselves, and on a global scale. They rally against injustice, apathy, political manipulation, and the lurking evil forces of cynicism and conservatism with sound, fury, originality, and righteous indignation. A breath of fresh air in a world largely devoid, it seems, of meaningful and truly honest, passionate music.

RADIO INTERVIEW UPLOADED: We also have our latest radio interview available for streaming or download from this location:
SO YOU CLAIM TO LOVE ROCK / METAL / HARDCORE? PROVE IT!!
Despite the recent influx of quality bands, the heavy music scene here is still struggling to keep afloat in the sea of superficiality which is pop culture. One of the major factors for this is the division which is choking our scene.
We all need to unite behind our common goal of making the kind of waves which can no longer be denied so we can push for rock, metal and hardcore to have its place in the media so we can hear our tracks on the radio and see our videos on the television.
Are you in a band? Do you have friends in a band? Or do you just freaking love the music? Then help us to help you for we cannot fight this fight alone!! Make some friends. Make some contacts. Make a difference. Together we can take a stand and have an awesome time doing it! And most importantly we can do it all without selling out…
Actions speak so much louder than words. So if you really love heavy music, it’s time not only to join the revolution but to play your part in shaping it!
No more cliché whining about being bored and good bands never playing All Ages shows in proper venues. No more supporting only international acts dictated to you by business driven media. Support local music and give them the opportunity to grow and not only meet but surpass your expectations. This is how we can really put the Aussie heavy music scene on the map. So what’s holding you back? Don’t be a sellout.
This Sunday is a diverse lineup. It showcases many but not all of the sub-genres we love. So no more excuses. It’s a good opportunity to check out just what is being offered out there. In the future, with more support we’ll be capable of tailoring shows more and more to the particular tastes of heavy music loving fans and only on the occasion have these kind of broader showcase shows at which we can all broaden such tastes.
I saw your interview and video clip on Stained Glass Fishbowl on TVS, it was pretty funny. Good luck with the overseas label, that's killer! Mind if I whore on your page?
