Steve has been sewing his DJ oats up and down the country for nearly 15 years
under various pseudonyms. You could say it all started at the age of 10 when he
became obsessed with making compilation tapes for his pre-pubescent buddies, but
it was probably the early 90s when he started playing out at local gatherings
called "Discos" that he actually learned to mix.
Beginning with early house and rave music, his teens took him through techno and
hardcore and eventually on to liquid drum & bass which he played obsessively
from 95 to 2000. But with the new millennium dawning, the old sounds started to
seem ...well, old ... and he grew bored of D&B and generally lost faith in dance
music altogether. For a while he concentrated on learning the art of music
production, focusing mainly on ambient and chill-out sounds. However in 2001,
during a Ram Records night at The End in London, he discovered BREAKS (thank
you, Klaus!).
Steve created Hedflux as his Breaks moniker and started DJing again, in and
around London, whilst shifting his production focus from chill-out stuff to
fatty bombatty breakbeat badness. In one of his first serious production
efforts, he won a remix competition for New York band Misfilter, with his remix
of "A Place for You".
In March 2008, after waiting almost a year for its release, his first single
'Music is my Weapon' hit the streets and has been "tearing roofs off" across the
world ever since. Like a kind of 'consciousness broadcast', the transmission has
attracted like-minded souls to respond with offers of kind words, great music,
and amazing opportunities, including an invite to DJ on Annie Nightingales
prestigious Breaks & Beats show on BBC Radio 1.
You can catch Hedflux DJing regularly in Norwich and Peterborough where he is
resident DJ at Psychedelic Breakdown and frequent guest at the long running
nights STUFF and Twisted Skunk. His DJ sets involve an energetic blend of
tech-funk, breaks, tech-house and electro, tightly knitted together with an
emphasis on deep psychedelic vibes.
Cool! I'll check that out. I thought digital was out today as well, they might leave it a week I'm thinking. Played your corker of a remix of it on Annie Nightingale on Friday.
Thx for the friendship here on myspace :) I hope you're doing mighty fine and that life is sweet and good upon you & your loved ones. May love & light radiate and shine strong and brightly in your life, also on behalf of all my beloved ones ! :)
