My main harmonica influences are: Jason Ricci, Howard Levy, John Popper and Richard Hunter.
My favourite soloists are John Coltrane and Chet Baker so different in expression but both equally deep and tragic and genious.
More favourite music at all: Miles Davis, The Thing, Archie Shepp, Charlie Parker, Steve Coleman, Mats Gustaffson, Peter Brotzman, Hazmat Modine, Tom Waits, Sainho, Red Snapper, Arcana, B.L.U.E, Bobby McFerrin, Kruzenshtern i parohod, David Sylvian, Archie Shepp, Cassandra Wilson, Charlie Parker, Erik Truffaz, Free Fall, Medeski Martin And Wood, Wibutee, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lee Oscar, Steve Baker, Sugar Blue, Peter Wettre, Stanton Moore and a lot of others...
I love great groove, great swing, free playing with squeezing and screaming sax (looking for the way to play harmonica like this).
I was born in 1984, July 29, Ekaterinburg, Russia. I start to play harmonica at age of 16. I play both diatonic and chromatic, but prefer diatonic. I customize harmonicas for myself, and use overblow technique and chromatic possibilities of diatonic harmonica. Sometimes I use a lot of stompboxes to allow harp to sound like a guitar or organ or any strange sound
I’m master of biology, postgraduate student now. I want to become all-time professional musician after finishing my Ph.D.
Polka Dots And Moonbeams. Vitaly Vladimirov (trombone, arrange) and his big-band. Chromatic harmonica - Boris Plotnikov.
Black Orpheus - jazz jamming at 9 1/2 Moscow harmonica festival. Diatonic harmonica - Boris Plotnikov. Alexander Staroverov on guitar. Unfortunately i don't know the bass player's and drummer's names. Video by Amigo.
Etalobster - With the bull's heads (S bych'imi golovami) - musical video-art short of my former band, very uncommon russian rock band "Etalobster" (directed by Alexander Serov)
Lost ship - Larry Howard with the band from Yekaterinburg. I put here the begining of the song and my harmonica solo. I play too fast for this song, I suppose (((: Just blues, with relatively fast traditional bluesharp.
No heavens (Net neba) - One more Etalobster video. Once our drummer was ill and we have to play improvisation set. It was cool. Only diatonic harmonica (in A natural minor), bass, voice and percussion. I use stompboxes a lot.
Привет Борис! Очень рад от тебя слышать. Как дела? Надеюсь мы скоро увидимся в России! Кстати... У меня теперь новый диск. Самый хороший диск в мире :-P
How are you ? :-) This is in fact a diatonic harmonica in Ab on Shout with Overdrive, lightFuzz, equalizer and Octaver, the same on Precious time (but with a C).

Yes, I overblow on Lee Oskars. The overblows on the Oskars aren't as stable as on some other makes and models, but for my purposes they work pretty well, at least on the Bb harps and higher.
Yes, I use overblows, and have for some time. My recording of "Blue Monk" from "The Act of Being Free in One Act" uses overblows to play the melody on the IV chord, for example. There are plenty of overblows in my recently recorded work.
I use them primarily on passing tones, where the listener won't have the opportunity to listen to the note for a long time. It's very hard to make overblown notes (or bends for that matter) sound as full as a normal note, so I very rarely use an overblow in any situation where the note is exposed, or when it will be easily compared to the notes played before or after it.
