Brothers Wes and Taylor Holliday and long-time friend Mike Jordan founded Halcrow in Summer '05 with the intention of creating a band that would compensate for inadequacies in their respective love lives.
MJ and the brothers Holliday searched high and low for a singer with the ability to bring their songs to life. Allison King fits the bill. Vocalist and pianist from an early age, she brings a powerful voice which lends itself to the themes of Halcrow's music. Having recorded a previous album in a dorm room in LA, she brings a wealth of originals and industry experience.
"We really spent a lot of time preparing, about a year in fact. Things had to be just right. We took the time to do our own recordings and scrutinize every detail," says egotistical lead guitarist, Taylor Holliday. Taylor divides his time between Halcrow and a day-job at Pixar. What will get him more groupies is anyone's guess.
Wes adds, "After years of playing in different bands, this project just feels right. If it didn't have the right vibe, I wouldn't bother." Wes, songwriter, went so far as to build a shrine to the gods of rock at his bedside. Wes also studies analytic philosophy, which he finds the perfect complement to the rock n' roll lifestyle. "After all," says Wes, "Music is all about bringing people together, the employable and the not-so-employable."
Drummer Jason DuVall specializes in breaking sticks and breaking hearts. Legend has it that one look into his silver sunglasses will turn anyone into a lifelong Halcrow myspace friend. Given Halcrow's current friend count, he needs to get out more.
"When I'm not chasing girls at the local junior college, I'm hard at work on the band," jokes bassist and classically trained pianist MJ, who leaves the wonderful, genuine beauties down at UCSB every other weekend to drive up to Sactown and rock with Halcrow. And rock they do, a venue near you.
