The GlimmerGrass Band is a group of friends that happens to play and love Acoustic Folk, Americana and Bluegrass music. The members of the group grew up playing the New Jersey Shore bar scene in various bands like Moskito Coast and Just Passin Thru. In an effort to get some party music together for what seemed to be weekly social gatherings at the Manasquan home of the Engler family, Gordon "Bunker" Strout, Bob Engler, John Dickson and Mike Dettlinger started concentrating on acoustic music. Although Mike Dettlinger had played guitar for years he had fallen in love with the mandolin and roots music. His passion for the music was contagious and soon spread to the others. Bunker set aside the Fender Strat and went to work on his acoustic guitar chops, Bob adapted his smooth drum skills to various percussion instruments and John blew the dust from his bass-fiddle, and the rhythm section of the band was formed. Shortly thereafter, Bunker invited his long-time friend Dan Morton to grace the group with his vocal talent and the newly formed band was well on its way but not yet complete. A close friend introduced vocalist Maura Tier to the group and in the first session playing together it was apparent to all that something special was happening. In its final step towards completion the band encouraged Dave Plewa, co-founder of Moskito Coast and an accomplished guitarist in his own right, to get in on the fun. Seeing that the guitar slot was already taken, Dave invested in a Dobro and started practicing all hours of the day and night and the GlimmerGrass Band was fully formed. Having played together since 2004, the band enjoys playing venues that are comfortable and friendly to their families, friends and fans. GGB can be seen regularly at Albert Music Hall in Waretown, Leggett's outdoor patio bar in Manasquan, NJ and various outdoor events throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties. In addition to an active schedule gigging around the shore, the band has produced two CD's ¦the self titled first CD and the more recent "GGB Live at Surf and Offshore" .
2008 brings a big change to the band as Mike's second child left little time for the GGB. His percusive chop will be greatly missed. Maura and Dan also have decided to leave the band. We wish them the very best in their new life together with the anouncement of their engagment to marrage.
With that, the remaining "fab four" have taken on some "Moskito" music with and acoustic twist and are excited about starting a new chapter in their musical life.
